Default Turbo Wheels -- $$

Last night while checking out a new Targa at our dealership openhouse the car came with the forged Turbo wheels.

Two things against them,--(1) the look doesn't really work for me; and (2) the price on the Monronny sticker showed that they will cost you $2440.00 MORE than the default Carrera S wheels.

Maybe you saw a C4 Targa. My dealer has a red C4S Targa also with the forged turbo wheels and the upcharge was I believe $890 or something in that range. For non S cars the price for all of the 19" wheels upgrades are very high peaking at $2440 for the turbo wheels. I don't care for them on any of the cars, but actually think they work the best on the targa. Maybe its the shiny wheels and the trim bar adding to the bling factor (if you like that sort of thing).

I also saw the turbo wheels on an S at the dealer as a approx $900 option.

I was not aware that they were actually forged.

Interesting though that the forge process didn't really lighten the wheels - they are comparable to Porsche cast offerings - maybe just a little lighter but nothing like what you can get with the forged Champions and others.

Forging makes for stronger wheels, as well as being lighter in general.

However, as an OEM wheel, strength is going to have priority over weight...these have to last the warranty period and beyond for liability reasons.

My dealer gave me the red C4S to take for a spin and I didn't take a single picture of the car. Funny thing is that at least a dozen people at the dealership were there taking pictures of my car with their camera phones, but I forgot to snap a single pixel of the Targa.

If I ordered a 997TT, I think I would take a basic Carrera wheel, ask for a $2400 discount, and us that for some aftermarket wheels. No matter how many times I see them, I just don't like those wheels.

I saw some nice pics on the 997 Turbo Forum. The guys car was Cobalt Blue and he had GT3 wheels on it. They looked REALLY good on the car, IMO.
