Carrera GT Crash in NY - The Whole Story
The news of this accident was posted in OT. And I know many of us read AutoBlog.com where the link will take you, but it's more than just a crash story. A friend takes his pal's Carrera GT for a little drive - and totals it.
Wait 'til you read what happened after the Carrera GT Crash in NY.

I for one say it: The CGT is more car than 99% of us can handle. I have seen it at the track twice adn twice I have seen them do either off-road visits or spun all over. For the amount of money these people pay for these cars, POrsche should include a minium of 4-5 days of classes for the drivers. Heck...Even if they include an extra $5K it in the price, the buyers can afford it and would be much safer for them and hte rest of us! there I said it!

Wow. Enzos and CGTs. They're dropping like flies. At least he was man enough to pick up another one for his buddy. Assume this was a night accident with poor vis.

there seems to be a tight correlation between having alot of $$$s, and incompetence behind the wheel. this appears to be one lane (in each direction) road in a residential area, how fast was he going?

now, if you had to crash other's cars, you got to be able to replace it
Oh yeah. And the car appears to be totaled, much to the chagrin of Porschephiles. But here's the part you aren't reading anywhere else: the man who wrecked the car made good. As we mentioned, he happened to be a very big businessman, and we now know that he's also a standup guy. He bought the car's owner another Carrera GT the next day. With lower mileage on the odometer to boot.
That, my friends, is how you own up to a mistake. And that's why this story is so much more interesting than the pictures alone, which may say a thousand words, but still come up a few short.

It seems like all the HP wars are beginning to come back and haunt some drivers. In almost every case it is driver error. If people aren't a little more careful we're all going to have to pay the price with induced restrictions. I better listen to my own sermon

This has nothing to do with the story, except about 20 years ago I hit a pole just like that one with a front engine Plymouth, doing about 40 MPH due to icy road conditions, totaled the car, but broke the pole, was surprised the pole he hit looked OK, no one was hurt or injured other than the pole and the car, next interesting thing that happend I got a bill from the city to replace the pole that cost more than the car.

I'm glad the guy's ok, and full respect for him replacing the car for his buddy. But it's a shame we've lost yet another piece of irreplaceable Porsche history.
