Went to the Arizona Auto Show yesterday hoping to see a Targa but all I saw was a base Cayman and a Cayenne. There wasn't a Porsche rep any where. I should have known after the no show at last years show. They want to sell their cars here but it seems they have no interest in allowing us to see their cars in a no sales environment. My disgust went away when I went to the Merc display. A rep asked me if I've ever driven any AMG and I answered one many years ago. He said I might be surprised if I drove one of the newer cars. I will find out Saturday.
Come to the Los Angeles Auto Show, which I believe is starting next week (about a month earlier than earlier years). Porsche has a separate room off the main exhibit hall filled with cars, both old and new. It's very impressive. And you can usually come home with a nice poster as well.
I am still tryin to figure out how to come home with one of the hotties who are on stage givin the blurb about the car. Think if I flash my Porsche fob it will help???
I need to be in Pennsylvania next week. If I finish early I might look into re-routing back to LA. It would be nice to see a real show again. You need to be careful when you start flashing your fob. Do you know the url for the show?
It starts this Friday, 12/1, and goes through 12/10. The GT3 and Targa are making their North American debuts, hence they were not seen at the shows in AZ, SF, etc.
I think in the U.S., the Los Angeles, Detroit and New York shows are the only ones that get any real manufacturer support from the better carmakers. Attend Boston, for example, and the only Porsches you'll see were brought there from a local dealership. (In fairness to them, Porsche of Nashua brought quite a bunch, including a gorgeous 997 Turbo).
Certainly if you want to see new models or serious prototypes, you need to be on the coasts. Or in Detroit, I guess, but that seems like quite a penalty.
I've been told the dealership here sells a lot of cars. The area does have a lot of people that can afford high end cars. IMHO it feels like a slap in the face to the dealer and us.
I was at the LA Auto show today (Media Day), and they unveiled the 997 Targa - wide body, AWD. They had the new GT3 there, but didn't make a fuss over it.
