Default Another Price Thread 997S

My apologies, first day here and I'm trying not to upset anyone. My name is misleading; should say Lozzy who wants a 997..

I promise I reviewed every one of the pricing threads but they seem to be very sensitive to location and timing, hence this one.

I live in the Bay Area. But I am willing to travel (within CA ideally). My budget is $80k on the road (so that includes 8% sales/use tax here). Cash.

Just looking at the classifieds (including here) it appeared that would get me an 05 997 from a franchised dealer or an O5 997S privately, just.

Then I found this tremendous forum (!) and it seems from all the threads talking about 10-15% discounts that an 06 997S is within my budget with some hard negotiating, from a dealer, certified.

By the way I am after gray, silver, black. blue. Nav. Bose. Chrono Sport.

My question - is this really the case - In the Bay Area, with no Winter to speak of, dealers who forgot the word "discount" a long time ago, and filthy rich people who are willing and able to pay full price?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom you may be able to share.

Thanks for that.

So from that I deduce an 07 997 is within budget in Ohio. Actually the 06 997S wasn't far off either.

So would it be too much of a leap to say an 06 997S in within budget in CA?

For $80k, you can get a new 06 997. With your desired option. You may need to spend a couple of thousand more. But, you will get a new 997 instead of a 05. I would go for a new 06. If you need dealer referal in bay area, PM me. Good Luck. I think there is still a few 06 in the lot for the bay area dealers. Check with their inventory.

PS filthy rich is not a derogatory term, it's something we Brits say to describe really rich..

Lozzy,
I am in the Bay Area too and I've found that the pricing is actually competitive because dealers know there are many of them within a reasonable distance of each other(Rector, Carlsen, Fremont, Stevens Creek, Sonnen, Walnut Creek).

Take your time to talk to them all and keep watching their inventory.

There are huge discounts out there right now. Just do a dealer search in rings around your address, starting tight and then expanding out to 300 miles (11 dealers show within 300 miles of you). You will see so much inventory out there - leftover 2006 product and new 07 on the lots as well. Add it up - if you see 20 997 on a lot, that's say $2 million - just in that model. The dealers are paying so much in monthly carry (vs. a year ago when you couldn't find anything). I just checked around your area and lots of product, even some 2006 997S.

I've seen in the past 2 weeks discounts as much as $10,000 off MSRP on a car equipped like you are looking for - and that's for a 997S. I've also seen very deep discounts (up to 10%) on a newly ordered car as well - so you get the color and options you really want.

Lozzy:

I too have been in the market for a 997S on the East coast. Started out looking for a 06 997S (10% discount) and ended up buying a 07 997S off a lot for at equivalent 10% discount. Fresh car (September build) with all the options I wanted and some I did not but they were 'nice to haves'. So I ended up paying a little more than I would have for an 06 but got MY newer car with better options. It was not 80K out the door but relatively close.

Keep looking and good luck.

Jeff

Thanks for the posts and PM's. I appreciate the time people are taking to reply with hard facts and details. Good point on the number of dealers around here; I guess that's an advantage as they know I can move on fairly easily. For those who've PM'd with contacts; thanks, I won't abuse them, I have the cash, I am ready to buy, so if we can agree on a price then there will be a sale. I'm no tire-kicker.

Cheers.
