Default How do the 997 sport seats rate...?? Comfy...?

We just got home from a 300+ mile ride on mostly 2ndary roads from CT, up thru Western MA to VT. Looking at the leaves and such. Trip totaled about 8 hours with a couple hours for lunch and walking around.

This was in my '96 993 C4S ... it has the 'regular seats', not the sport seats.

This is not the first trip of this length we've taken with the car. And, each time ... man, does my back, butt and left thigh get tired, stiff, and pained.

Here's my question... I'm getting a 997 C4S with full leather sport seats in a few months. I wonder how these seats compare with the 'old' seats? Anyone with a 993 and a 997 that can compare the same/same for me?

I hope the new seats are more comfy in the long run. The 993's are good for about 1.5 hours before they become like a stock Harley saddle. OUCH!!

Thanx.

I have a C2S 2006 with the standard seats and after trying out both standard and sport on test drives I liked the standard better. The sports seats were very hard and not much hip room. I am 6'5" tall. IF you are short then the sports seats might work if you like a stiff hard seat.

My former 98 C2S and my 987S both have sport seats. They are remarkably similar, but the new seats have more width in the lower back area. The 993 sport seats had greater adjustability in that you could lower the front of the seats (hamstring area). My manual 987 seats do not have that feature, but the cabin is more comfortable in general (i.e adjustable wheel).

The 993 seats felt more substantial and had more padding, but the 987/997 seats are far more supportive due to higher hip and better fitting back bolsters.

If I were to order my car I would think twice about the adaptive sport seats, or else get the power base seats. I love the look and the grip of the sport seats but they are hard edged for drives of more than 1-1.5 hrs. The power versions allow you better configurability to find a more supportive rake and position.

BTW, I am 6' 205 # and wear a 46" coat. Sport seats fit me fine.

Hope that helps!

No, I'm not short. I'm 6'2" and 220# with a flat ***.

Seats are like shoes. You have to do more than just sit in them to see if they are comfortable.

I sat in the standard seats in the dealership ... and then in the sport seats. The sport seats seemed more comfortable and supportive. I didn't see any real difference in firmness, but I was only just sitting in them for a few minutes.

The car I drove had the sport seats. I only drove it for a short time and they were fine. Driving my 993 with standard seats for 45 minutes is fine, too. It's the longer drives that make me sore.

I have adaptives (previously had a 996 and 986S with standard seats) and I love them, especially with the ability to adjust the sides for comfort and support. The adaptives include the power seat option and are not terribly more expensive when you consider it includes that option. But you need to go try them out for yourself.

regular or adaptive sports. dont just get the sports unless you have sat in a P car so equipped and fit perfect.

Adaptive sports are excellent for long drives. Did 10 hours up to Portland, no problem. Also 5 hours to Monterey, no problem. I'm 6' - 210. The lumbar is power adjustable, in case you are lumbar-sensitive, as my wife is.

Porsche has improved the seats considerably since the 993 and even the 996 days. So much so that you may not even have to spring for the pricy Adaptive Sports. I went for them myself as comfort is everything to me in a car that I will drive for 10 to 12 hours straight in. Recommend you check them out at the dealer nearest you. Sit in them, take a drive,--try them all. It's like buying ski boots,--try them all in the shop and go with the ones that fit the best,--not necessarily the most expensive or top of some name line.

I have the standard seats (with power) in my 2005 C2S. The were very comfortable and supportive on a trip from Southern NJ to Montreal for the GP in June, a trip of about 500 miles. Neither I nor my friend who co-drove experienced any soreness the entire trip, which was about 6.5 hours long.

I'm 6'1" and I'm someone that usually has back problems after 30 minutes in most car seats, but the A.S.S. seats in my 997 are good for hours. I've been in the seats for 4 solid hours and never so much as wiggled around - they are that good in my opinion.

The standard 997 seat looks like the ones in the 996, but with the power option they seem to feel better on my back than the 996's did. As mentioned earlier, perhaps they are only the same above the surface.

997 seats are far more comfortable than the 996 seats. Had three 996, a targe with the regular seats, a turbo with the regular, ruffled seats, and a turbo S with the sports seats. My 997 has the regular seats with electric and that are so much better than the 996. The Cayman S has the sport seats and I like them better than the regulars in my 997.

I took a drive to RI today to sit in some cars. The only car they had readily available with SS was an '07 TT ... which, BTW, I would love to have in my stable. Just not as a daily driver, eh.

But, I digress....

I sat in a C4S cab with 'regular seats', but with the full electric option. I gotta admit, they seemed pretty comfy to me with all the movement they have.

The *** may be a bit 'over the top' for me. I really don't drive hard enuf long enuf to have the adaptive feature. Plus, the seats feel a bit narrower than the 'regular seats' and the seat bolsters (both the butt and shoulder parts) seem HARDER ... true?

I'm more interested in comfort than 'sport support'. I don't think the adaptive feature will be on my list. I'm still "in the air" regarding SS vs the standards.

On top of this ... I'm rethinking my choice of 'full leather' as well. Gawd, I hate choices.

I always liked the look of the sport seats but wound up purchasing a 997 with power supple leather seats. The supple seats seem a bit cushier but still hold you in nice and tight....might be a good option for your flat ***

I just bought a 997S and find the sport seats to be just fine. Of course, I also find my GT3 shell seats to be very comfortable, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask.

I do think the 997 sport seats look stunning and gorgeous, almost as luscious as seeing my red Sabelt harnesses draped alluringly on the black leather of the GT3 seats, a look that I once likened to "rolling sex".

I guess I'm the oddball. I have adaptive sport seats and I'm 6-4, 225lbs. They're great for very short, spirited drives. My legs ache after about 50 miles and by 70 miles I have to get out of the car. Maybe I haven't adjusted them correctly or I'm too big.
