Default Bad smell from AC

Does anyone experience bad odor coming out from the AC? sometime when I turn on the AC, the air coming out from the AC system has very bad smell, kinda like mixture of exhaust or chemical smell which make me hard to breath. The AC system works fine, just the smell is bad sometime. My car has only 1,400 miles, 2006 C4S. Is is normal before the break-in?

I have not experienced this in my 997, but a similar thing happened to me in my '06 BMW 330xi. It went away at some point.

Not normal for a break in but just something that happens to all cars, regardless of age.
Remember though that it's drawing air from under the hood, through the venting and ducts, etc, so it can really be any number of things
i know someone who stored a car all winter - mice made a nest and yes, a few died. Pretty putrid.
However, it sounds like it may be something in the system or in the engine compartment making the smell, if it's chemically. if it's really that bad you might have it looked into, as likely this issue is something from the factory.
How often does it happen? Do you notice it happening on warmer days?

I have just 2019 miles on my new c2S cab and only noticed the A/c oily smell after running the A/C hard with the top down for awhile. Wifey like the top down even in the 90+ degree muggy Florida heat with the A/C full blast. When I put the top up before we park the car the A/C stinks. I do noticed this a little less now as more miles are on the car.

I have the exact same smell every time I turn on the A/C. Kind of smells like oil and other chemicals. I thought it was just because the car is new but if you still have it after 1,400 miles, then I guess it isn't just something that occurs only during break in. My C2S has 700 miles on it. Wondering if this is something that requires a service visit.

I will wait until the break-in, if the smell persists I will bring it to the service for check up. It doesn't happen during the warmer day in particular, just from time to time.

I have about 1,400 miles on my C4S. I have not experienced any unusual smells from the air. You may want to do a seach, I believe there was a similar posting a few months ago.

Yeahp! I get a musty smell for a few secs after the a/c is on. I had the internal a/c filter replaced last wk and still have "the smell". A friend just bought a 987 2 wks ago and already have "the smell".

Just a tip - if you switch your AC off, leaving just the fans running, when a couple of miles from home, the AC has a chance to drain it's condensation before you park it in the garage.

This prevents the condesnsation siting in the pipework, and causing the musty smell at start-up.

Also - get some Auto Febreze, and spray onto your cabin air filter, and into the cabin air intake while the air filter is out. This also helps kill any bacteria in the system that could cause musty smells.

Chris.

Are you dating my old girlfriend by chance? She projectile vomited into the vents of my old Audi (fried clams and tartar sauce) and it was a constant reminder of how bad that relationship stank.
