I have not had one in over 5 years
although about 6 months ago I was driving way to fast on my way to work (at 6AM), a cop saw me go by, knew I was speeding but didn't know how fast I was going (as he was coming off a side street). I arrvied a work parked my car and was about 50 feet away from it when I saw him stop half a block away, turn on his lights and drive towards me.
He checked my license and registation and came back to me a told me to slow down. He didn't give me a ticket, but if he had the fine would have been around $500 for the speed that I was going.

I got one (67 in a 55 zone) and was very nice and stopped. The cop was coming the other way and then turned around on a two-lane road behind me. She turned on her lights as she passed me and I watched her do the U Turn way behind me. I could have easily gone over the hill, did a U turn and headed back the other way. Since it was nighttime she would have had no clue where I was and could not see the car I was driving.
I was the only car going the direction I was traveling, but there were several cars behind the police car, so I would have been just another one on the road.
I am just too honest.

I think that this poll is a jinx. It's scaring me. <knock wood>
Eggplant, great strategy, BTW.

I have to share this tale.
While on a spring tour with the Porsche club we quickly discovered the various groups that make up the club. The serious speed obeying crowd (this is in the 55 days) who hovered around 55-60, the 70-80 crowd, the 100 mph crowd and then the ***** to the walls crowd. Well, you can guess where I fell in that lineup...
So three of us in that last crowd (all in Turbos) were westbound on I40 doing a respectable 100 something when all of a sudden my raw-gear lit up, indicating something ahead. I was on the binders in a flash, yet somewhat surprised that the 1976 Turbo Carrera in front of me had not reacted yet. The guy behind me in his relatively new 1985 930 was also on his brakes, mirroring my slow down. The lead car finally got the hint and came to dead slow. Coming up over the rise toward us in the passing lane was one of that state's finest. Quickly looking in my rearview mirror by this time I noted that he had switched on his amber caution lights in his rearwindow and was looking for a break in traffic so that he could flip flop in the center and come after these three Porsche bound felons. The lead 930 sped up to 125 to get to the next exit and bail off the freeway. I pushed it up to 140 and caught him and did the same,--bail out time. The third, in the newest 930 pulled into the right lane, dropped the speed to 55, and tried to look as innocent as he could.
The two of us who bailed off the freeway parked and monitored the CB for awhile for 'activity' and them filed a revised 'flight plan' paralleling the freeway but on the south side for the next 60-70 miles, keeping a watchful eye out.
We all arrived at the rendezvous breakfast spot intact. The guy who remained on the freeway advised us that the highway patrol never did get the opportunity to turn around and never did stop him. He stayed at 55 that entire leg, paranoid the whole time. The other two,--we resumed our 'best cruise' speeds and also suffered no consequences from this chance encounter.
Life in the fast lanes of America.

The goddamn popup radar can get you even with a good detector. The cops in wait where you can't see them and as soon as the detector goes off, you are a violator, guilty as charged.
