Default When will 998 be coming out?

How many more years do we have before they introduce the 998 body style? 2010?

IMO it will be in 2010 as a 2011 model.

2011-12 as an 2012-13

generally there is a 8-9 year gap between generations.

Default Do you mean 997.5?

There are plenty of pics of that on the net already. But Porsche would be nuts to introduce it when they've just launched the TT and GT3. That's more likely an '08 MY introduction.

Perhaps more importantly is the facelift to the 997. Cars have been spotted with (relatively) minor front and rear changes. I would expect this for the 2008 model along with a bump in HP.

I will throw out 380hp for the Carrera S and 350 for the Carrera to keep it in check with current HP war that seems to be brewing and 400hp the minimum level of entry for 55-70k performance oriented cars.

I just cant see Porsche being fine with an E92 M3 that outperforms the Carrera S. Its going to take 380 hp to do that.

Im not 100% sure but historically the 'x' packages of the current model seem to be very close in HP to the following Carrera model (in todays case the Carrera S has similar power to last models 'X' pacakge).

2010 as 2011 model for major change sounds about right, complete with 3.8 liter flat 6 with 360hp and 400hp 4 liter perhaps. Or I can stop dreaming.

I think thats doable though on a Carrera S....say $90k base and perhaps throw in a few popular options. RS4 is 70k and change, new M3 will be (optioned out) 65k easy and GTR will be 911 priced but with 911 turbo performance if you believe their statements so far so the market is flowing in that direction.

If they up the hp to 380 and the base near the current S, that would make a few unhappy people. But I would not rule it out...Look what they did with the 987. S gets the 3.4 engine...I would be one POed customer if I had just purchased a 06 987.

More power is coming. But thats why the last model year is often able to be bought at a discount on dealer lots - so people cant get too upset unless they dont do their homework or paid MSRP for the car.
996 x package became the base power (give or take) for the 997. History I think will repeat itself.

i highly doubt it - 986 was 7 years, and 996 even shorter at 5 years. in fact, even the 993 was only 6 years iirc.

Nah...Porsche doesn't participate in horsepower wars. On a per-dollar basis, plenty of cars have always outperformed Porsches throughout the range.

The 997 model range is evenly spaced in both power and performance. The 997S X51 fills the gap between the 997S and GT3; a power bump to X51 levels on the 997S would then create a void. Besides, all of their sports cars are selling well and profits are at record levels...why give anything away?

The E92 M3 won't be a threat to the 997S. Even with 400hp and in the $55-65k range, like the RS4 it will be heavy (turning off sports car purists) and based on a 'small sedan' platform (turning off Porsche poseurs). Performance will be similar to the RS4, which is still not as quick or fast as a 997S.
