Thought I would run this by you all! I purchase a C4S, picked it up in Europe drove it around for 3 weeks, never noticing the small paint blemish at the time, I have an eye for detail, so I am perplexed by me not spotting it sooner.

Well when it was delivered to me a week ago I notice a small blemish on the edge of the passenger's door. It has air pockets in the area. I asked sales guy, service manager and finally the body shop pro. All said, "Factory"! The body shop guy was most convincing. Said the bubbling is from the baking.

Here is the problem. Porsche will most likely pick up the tab, but the body shop guy said that he would also need to repaint the rear quarter panel too! My 100k car is now going to have body shop work done on it before it has even been waxed! The car just won't be the same.

Do I live with the paint blemish? or have a body shop take a whirl with it??? SOB

 

Bubbling from baking? Maybe his brain is baking. That is most likely Solvent Pop. Common problem, not often, but common enough. Could be wet sanded if it's not too deep in the clear, but if it is in the base coats, they will need to take it down and repaint. Bummer.

I'd see your District Service Advisor (arranged through your dealer) before I'd have anyone touch it.

My rule is to always minimize the removal of factory paint to the maximum extent possible. I have a little work that needs to done but am debating whether to even sweat it. I'm not sure that I buy the "baking" is the cause. They seem not to do this often.

After a few rock chips, and a front spoiler scrape, you won't even notice it. Or, put another way, after a few windshield dings, that will be the least of your pain.

They get dinged up driving, I'd leave well enough alone.

I've yet to get a car that had perfect paint.

 

ask the dealer to give you some freebie (oil change or whatever) and forget about it.

 

"Forget about it"!!! That is exactly the way I am leaning after they recommended painting almost half the car! For a while I thought it was a cover up, but if it is factory, maybe I can live with it till I sell it! Anybody want to buy it???!

 

Talking to a friend of mine who has been in luxury car sales(brand new cars)many years,and you would be very suprised just how many cars have extra paintwork done before they reach their first owners.Imperfections from the factory,delivery damage,damage at the dealership etc.99% of the time the owner is unaware.A few years ago my brother had a brand new mb clk cab delivered with runs(ie too much paint had been applied)all down one side.It was rectified by the dealer no problem but annoying nethertheless

 

OT, how could one pick up a new 997 in Europe and not be able to exceed 4200 rpm for 2000 miles. It would just drive me nuts.

 

Get it fixed. It's no big deal as it's just a car, not a lady with face lift scars. When I took dellivery of my 997 it had some scrapes on the rear lower fender due to transport. I wrestled with repairing it or living with it. My wife said this car cost too much to "live with it". I agreed, fixed it and have been happy ever since. Do you really want to look at that blemish everytime you wash your car? I doubt it. Do it.

 

Well you have to remember, I didn't know any better! 4200rpm felt just great.......and oh how sweet it was when I rolled past 2000 miles reved it up and blew down the autobahn at 170mph! 1300 miles of pure pleasure listening to it howl down the autobahn and through the mountain passes!!!

Ah.....the memories!!!

 

Mine has two very small blemishes. I'd say just live with it.
