Default Front plate

I just got stopped for no front plate and five over in a 55. He let me off with a verbal warning on the speed, but gave me a fix-it on the plate. I know this has been discussed, but I can not find it using "search". Where can I find the tow-hook front plate mount? Or, is there any better way to mount this thing for the sign-off? Thanks.

As a side note, I was traveling on a twisting mountain road (Feather River Canyon, California) and he came around a corner (coming toward me). Within three seconds, he had his lights on (before he even passed me). It was literally less than 10 seconds before he had whipped a u-turn and was behind me. I have no radar detector and don't know if it would have helped or not in such a circumstance.

Any help on finding that mount would be appreciated.

You can start here:

I suspect the police are wise to the Porsches and are using it as an excuse to pull you over. I think, too, if they are laser users, they find that the presence of a front plate makes their laser work a lot better. License plates, with their reflective plate, are essentially little corner reflectors and that's something that the laser systems love. The alternative, the headlights, don't reflect the laser beam as effectively (more scattering).

Personally, I think that running WITH a front plate shows that you have a tendency to comply with the rules,--at least in that area. They might be a bit more lenient in other areas, e.g., speeding.

5 over, sheesh. He probably knew that wouldn't fly so he tried to nail you on the front plate. Just use some double sided foam tape to stick it to the bumper and then remove it later, if that's the route you want to go. Use a hair drier to loosen the tape to get it off.

I've posted this before several times in response to the plate/no plate threads........just check out all of the new(er) 'Vettes on the road and see how many of them run front plates. Wonder what their pull over ratio is for FP "violations"?

It's a $70 non-moving violation in Texas. I don't have mine mounted.

Exactly why I mounted my front plate. Gives those aggressive, hair trigger cops an excuse to pull you over whenever they want. Not worth it, IMO. You get used to the plate. I never look at my car regret having mounted it. I mounted it very low, below where Porsche wants it; no visible holes when and if removed.
Is there a picture of your plate mount previously posted? If not, could you? Thanks.

For inspections here in MASS I just ziptie the plate to the driver side vent on the front bumper. Once the inspectaion is over it goes back into the storage area in the trunk. If I get pulled over I just tell the cops someone tried to rip it off the car and I haven't remounted it yet. A white lie for sure but better then drilling holes in the caah (Boston speak)

That's what I was thinking about the 'vettes. The plate area actually says "corvette" so wonder how many of them get pulled over. I can't recall seeing a vette with a front plate on it.

Isn't that just an insert that you can remove so the plate then fits nicely in the spot?

I'm not sure if this is current, but there is a petition to eradicate the front plate law in California. I didn't see a date on it but I signed it anyway. The link to the petition is below.

This is a link for the "mower axle" license plate holder which secures to the tow hook mount. I carry the kit in my boot for when the time comes. It's a worthwhile $85.

The copyright information at the bottom of the on-line petition page says "1999-2004." I don't think it's very current. Also, no such measure is before the legislature right now.

Bottom line? It's not going to happen. California muncipalities are getting into the "red-light traffic camera" business bigtime. Those devices need front plates for the IDs to stand up in court so, don't look for the front plate to go away in California anytime soon. Sad, but true.

Don't the camera systems also photo the rear of the car as it passes through the intersection? If so, why do they need a front plat as well. The front photo would identify the driver, the rear photo would identify the vehicle.
