They try to catch it all from the front. Many states also have a special sticker than has to be in the front window (usually in a lower corner) and that, your face, and the front plate cinch the ID for the authorities. If implemented in a single plate state they have to grab the rear. But, I'm not aware of any single-plate states that are using the photo systems,--yet.

Seems the # of 'Vettes on road out number Porsche by about 10:1? Don't recall seeing any pulled over lately, or P-cars for that matter

OTOH I do see quite a few lowered Hondas, Mits, etc with a front plate "mounted" on the dash board. Hmmm, what about a sunroof mount--open the roof and the plates flips up

As a follow-up, would a radar detector have picked up the oncoming CHP from around a curve in the road, blocked from sight by a mountain?

If he had it on, yeah it would have picked it up early. IMO this guy didn't have it on and that's why he just stuck you for the front plate. Detectors are great for situational awareness.

Here in Alberta we have no front plates, all kinds of photo radar and red light cameras. It's called the cash cow system.

Thanks for the heads up on Alberta. Will keep it subsonic up there!

I don't keep a front plate on any of my cars.. Occassionally I get a ticket and I pay it.. Would rather pay a ticket for no front plate than a ticket for photo red light..
Not that I am condoning going through red lights. I don't. But those things are run and operated by private companies and they have a financial incentive to give you a ticket even if it is, "in the grey".

It is proven that the photo cameras do not help improve safety and are put in places like downhills where cars will carry more speed because of inertia.

They are not used at the "dangerous intersections" they are used at the "intersections most likely to generate revenue." And since they are unconstitutional I choose not to play into the money making scheme.

So you don't have to have line of sight in order to detect the radar signal?

I know that this is an old thread, but I just found out about a Nevada law that took effect back in the summer of 2005. According to the new law, you do not need to have a front license plate on your vehicle, if the motor vehicle was not manufactured to include a bracket to display and secure a front license plate. I found out about it when I went down to pick up our new BMW X5, and it had no front plate bracket. The dealer rep told me that there was no need for one because of the new law. Happy day!!!

That means I will no longer have to sweat it out with no front plate on the 997S or the upcoming GT3!!!!

No one has every bothered me with no front plates, AZ doesn't have them. I always use my valentine in these situations. CA cops always seem to take an interest in me going up the back road to Vegas along the Colorado River. Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado don't take notice as long as I am behaving myself.

Billco, should have said "listen up schmuck, how about leaving me alone and finding some real crime to fight?" At least you could have thought it!

That's exactly what I thought. But I didn't want to fail the attitude test.

Hell no - Laser yes but RADAR (Radio Waves) bounce all over the place and that's why you can pick them up from over hills and around corners depending on what the waves are bouncing off of.

Laser - very directional with minimal scatter at distance and if your Laser thingie goes off its usually too late

Heck, I live here and didn't know that. The local P-car dealer must not know because all of their inventory seems to get a front plate.

Tell your dealer to take a look at NRS 482.275.
