It's not a bad car.
You guys are too hard on the car. So your neighbor is into boom box stereos. What does that prove other than you attempt to prejudice the readers?
I love both my cars. Make no mistake, no 911 performs at well as the Z06 except the new GT3 and TT, and that is now down to the drivers.
What do you want at $72K? Full leather? A 911 without the full leather option is not much better, if at all.
911 owners sure make a lot of noise about the Z06, I don't know why when it is in a different price class. Why not bash/compare the 911 to it natural competitors, AM V8, Masarati, AMG, etc.
I find it curious that if you visit the Ferrari board, they love the car. Several own them as daily drivers. They don't seem threatened by the car like Porsche owners.
I use mine as a daily driver. It's a riot. The 911S Cab comes out on nice days and weekends. I don't feel like slumming it when I take the Z06. I do feel slow when I take the 911.

I think this was a very civilized conversation about the two cars. I don't know about most people but with rare exception you're either a vette guy or a Porsche guy.
Most of this has very little to do with finances. When I was a lad of about 9 I fell in love with the 911, and ever since it's been Porsche for me all the way.
The Vette elicits zero emotion in me, which is why I'm not concerned about it's performance or a Subaru WRX with 10k in mods. The vette could be 35K, or 135K I still wouldn't own one.
I don't see any bashing I see people who are passionate about their cars.

There seems to be a belief from some on this thread that the Z06 does not perform better that the TT. That would be a mistake to believe, especially if you plan on challenging the Z06 on the street.

I think I would own a 1969 Corvette Stingray in a heartbeat. I believe those cars had so much character, I wish Chevy would have continued to develop that body style.

The 911 is designed the way the Porshe people want it to be, there is a history to the car and they want it to be a 6-cylinder rear-engined car that has great breaks, road feel, aerodynamics and engine technology. If they were competing against the Vette then they would make it an 8 cylinder or make another model and make that an 8 cylinder and make it kick the Vette's ***. I really don't think Porcshe cares about the existence of the Vette.

I used to own a 1969 L-88 Vette. Now THAT is a VETTE! 427 engine, 850 double-pumper carb, M22 Rock Crusher trany, 4:11 rear. It's without a doubt a sick a$$ car. Love the warning sticker by the console warning of engin damage if 106 octane was not used. The cam on that motor made it idle like a paint shaker!
I drove a new Z06. Love the God awful power (just like my old L-88). Just didn't like the interior, long hood, balsa wood floor coverned in carbon fiber, numb/heavy steering. Then there's the smell after a run of burning plastics! I loved the amount of torque and power! Fun as all hell to drive and I would suggest you try one just for fun to see for yourself.
But, when it came to pure "sport car" feeling and pride in production of a fine automobile with fit/finish, steering feel/feedback and excitement, you really have to agree that Porsche has produced a line of fine sport cars for those craving driving excitement. That's why I went with my spec C2S.
I miss the good old days when cars had big block engines, gas was cheap.
If I had the money, I'd get a Z06 as well for those times I just need to feel the "good ol' days". It would be fun to bring it to a track day or other meet with fellow Porsche owners to let them drive and deside for themselves.
Gee, I wouldn't mind a F1- 430 as well!

Deanski
