PSE installation - tomorrow
So by Thursday night I should have my own opinions to add to those who are either for it or against it. I wonder which side of the fence I'll fall on?
It seems that the biggest argument against PSE is the lack of extra power - which I agree is a bit lame on an expensive add-on. However as I only drive at 50/60% of the cars real potential (ie. rarely over 100mph) and I don't track the car - I figure that any extra HP is more emotional comfort than actually of any practical benefit.
The cost in the Uk is about £1500 fitted so I hope the sound delivers the big fat grin I'm expecting to have plastered across my face!
Thanks to everyone thats posted on this subject - its made interesting and emotive reading.

Robbonds - "the black and white rubber valve" your talking about - is that part of the kit that the dealer has an option to install or is it a valve that comes from the general parts bin?
I know you've mentioned this before as the correct way to keep the system on all the time, rather than unplugging the connector.
here is link to a pic of what im talking about - you must register with renntech first i think..
its in the 3rd pic - sitting on the plastic bag

The most impressice P-car I heard was a NA 993 that accelerated from the toll plaza. Damn!! I am pretty sure it had an aftermarket system but it was awesome.

And, you can turn it off if you don't like it.
My buddy Brian has a F355 Berlinetta with a Tubi exhaust. It certainly does not sound like a 911. The Ferrari screams at high rpm. The 911 with PSE is much throatier, I think...
I don't think that you can miss with PSE. JMHO.

I was thinking of upgrading to a 997turbo. but price is a huge factor. so maybe I'll just do a minor upgrade to the pipes instead. maybe the pse will make me think i'm going faster than I really am
Instant impression - fantastic, grin factor 10 out of 10. I couldn't be more pleased with the resulting sound.
Is it a complete pose? Probably but what the hell, it's made crawling through urban traffic a real treat so its worth it for that alone.
Does it make the car any faster? I doubt it very much - but it certainly made me want to drive faster. I took a great 80 miles route home in Sport mode the whole way, windows down, roof open. The car has always felt great and now its got the sound to go with the performance.
Interestingly I was on the phone to the dealer as soon as I got home asking about the short shifter and manifold conversion pack. So maybe making a 'cosmetic' mod will lead me to making performance enhancing ones in future.
My tech guy wasn't happy about changing the vacuum hose that 'robbonds' has discussed - but he was happy about me unplugging the red connector and suggested that I do that - in fact he did it in front of the Service Manager so if theres any problem I'm happy that they'll sort it out.
So there you go - for me it's made the car sound like it always should have - perhaps it should be standard fit rather than an optional extra. Either way I'm totally stoked! Now I've just got to move somewhere near a big tunnel.

The 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S offer total power output of 261 kW (355 bhp) as standard. From the moment the key is turned, the new flat-six engine sets the drivers heartbeat racing. Now you can raise your pulse-rate further with this exclusive engine conversion. With a maximum output of 280 kW (381 bhp), the results are 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) in 14.9.*
The key advantage of the Powerkit package is the optimised gas-flow on inlet and exhaust. This is achieved by means of modified cylinder heads. Other new features include an aluminium intake manifold and revised exhaust manifolds with larger bores. Controlling it all to optimum effect is the uprated engine management system. The performance is matched by the sight and sound of the carbon-fibre housing for the air filtration system and the sports exhaust unit with matching sports tailpipes. All are designed for optimum throughput and thus optimum engine performance. While the engine acoustics are considerably enhanced, you retain the option of switching to standard sound levels at lower engine speeds.
Out on the track, the result is increased power output across the entire range of engine speeds. The car is more responsive, more athletic, more adept even more of a Porsche 911.
