Heyas,
While I'm not the swiftest guy around I usually am able to follow simple directions... but to no avail with setting the remote control buttons on my 997S.
Anyone else have problems setting their garage door opener? I hate having to lug around the original unit on my sun visor. The only thing that may be a problem is the age of my garage opener? Its a Lift-Master Professional, model 1000SDR, and date is 1993.

For some reason I couldn't get the left button to work properly, but I was able to get the center and right button to program just fine. Make sure that you clear the memory before you attempt to program the unit.

Thanks all for the info... finally got it working, but I got it working by reading the directions here:
http://www.homelink.com/home/global.taf
Then go to the training page, it has a lot of info and lets you pick your make/model/year of your car.

If your opener is too old, go to Home Dep. and get the Geni upgrade kit.. You can still use your old clicker as well as the homelink. You get a new clicker, remote receiver, wire and for about $45.
Works great!!

I have tried the link above at least 4 times. Each time, I tell them I want to "program a garage door opener", enter the make, style and year of my car, enter "Liftmaster" and it takes me to a completely blank page. Am I doing something wrong, here?

Also the problem with my garage door opener wasnt that it was too old (granted 1993 is a while back) but it was one of the early Liftmasters that had the rotating code thing which I finally realized once I read throught the garage door manual.

Do not select "program a garage door opener."
Select the option just above it, " PROGRAM FOR THE FIRST TIME."
You will need to follow the instructions carefully. The "rolling code" instructions worked for me in about 15 minutes. So, give it another shot.

Clear the codes on your home-link system. I believe you have the "rolling code" system.
and follow these steps:
-Open your garage door and press the RED button on the garage lift unit (make sure the garage door is opened and MAKE SURE THE CAR IS NOT PARKED UNDER THE GARAGE DOOR.
Walk to the P-car and Press the button you want to program as your garage opener and check the light display under the rear home link system until the door lift reacts by closing (it could take 15-30 seconds).
I hope this helps.

Yes and you may have to program it twice. That means simply pressing the red button on your garage door opener, run to your car and press the button you want to program in less than 30 seconds, hold the button briefly till it blinks? forget if it blinks or solid, once its done that simply press the button you programmed again.
