Default X51 package on 997 S?

Anyone here have the X51 power option on their 997 S?

Does the boost from 355 HP to 381 HP make a noticeable difference in performance?

Was it worth the $16k?

Do a search and you'll find more info than you could imagine on the subject.

They'll ALWAYS tell you they can feel it! (They HAVE to as their wallets are $17k thinner).

The X51 of a friend dynoed at 392 FWhp. He has 8k miles on it.
I can tell you from my experience driving a 6sp Carrera S and my CS X51 tip that you can't feel it as much with the butt dyno but you can see it on the speedo. Even though my Tip was a gear short I was 1-2mph faster on the straights at the ring. The cars were pretty similar except mine was 2.5k miles and his was 7k miles. The Tip is 100lbs heavier too. I'd say the X51 added 3-5mph on the straights and compensated for the odd tiptronic gearing with more torque accelleration out of the corners.
Now if you ask if it's worth the 16k? Well to a guy who tracks, yes. For me personally, I'm neutral. I don't track, but I wanted more power. Hence the X51

I've considered several ways to get more power out of my incredibly disappointing new C2S. It is slow, too refined, and some what of a bore to drive. I have decided to go with the x-51 package and have it supercharged by orbit racing.

The C2S is my first Porsche in about 20 years and am very disappointed after putting about 6,000 miles on it. It is still a nimble car and pretty quick, but you have to put so much money and parts into the car to really make it an exciting drive.

Hope others are more satisfied with theirs.

If you think for a moment they're going to charge $17k for a name, you gotta another thing coming. I would love to have that option and would have gladly paid-up for it on my S. The write-ups I've seen are a resounding more ponies and you can feel 'em. I've also seen where it has exceeded its promised 381 horses on every test. I envy you guys that have taken the plunge. Please share your opinions...

I can't believe anyone would be that disappointed with a 997 C2S. What were you driving before?

If someone is dissapointed with the C2S, the hp, torque, and 0 to 60 times were available to know before you bought it. Then why did you buy it, should have simply waited for the turbo or the GT3.

I haven't owned any "super" car previous to this one, It's just that it's not an exhilarating drive. There no seat of the pants rush when you drive it. I just find it a bit pedestrian. I love the look and always have loved the 911 style since I first became aware of it in the 70's. I never wanted a turbo and still don't. I guess I'm an adrenaline junkie. I want to be thrown into the seat upon acceleration, and in stock form, the 911, in my opinion, doesn't deliver.

I have tested some C2S supercharged cars with 450+ Hp and that's the experience I am looking for. Don't get me wrong, I believe the 911 cars are the sexiest cars on the road. I just need more power.

Yup, apparently that's rarer than a hot pink Carrera GT. Special order and euro delivery. The engineer I spoke with at Zuffenhausen also said the tip S maps weren't that different from the non X51.

I think the turbo is the car you are looking for. Or maybe the GT3 RS when it comes out. Also a supercharger is just another form of forced induction so why not get a turbo? Unless you're not into AWD?
Porsche is not really known for acceleration exhiliration. The 997 is more visceral than the 996 but compared to the ol 964, it is more civilized. If you want old school sports car brute but excellent steering feedback and chasis dynamics for under $120k (the price of a 997CS with supercharger), try the Z4 M roadster. It's a brute and does bite with DSC off.
If you want sheer power, the vette Z06 is your car.
