anyone crack a windshield
#4
Broke a windshield from road debris twice on an SL and a C class. In Illinois insurers have to cover this without deductible so people won't be too cheap to replace the windshield (would never happen with an expensive car but a friend of mine drove around with a cracked windshield on a Corolla forever). They came to my house and replaced it both times with no cost to me.

Must have been a slip up on the insurance company's part (or favor), installer fibbed to the insurance company, or something else, but there is not law or regulation that requires any nsurance company to replace windishields in Illinois free.

Maybe it's a policy of State Farm. Since it happened twice I doubt it was an oversight. In fact I'm pretty sure SF told me there is no deductible for windshield damage.

Most insurance companies will waive the $100, $250 or $500 deductible and pay for your repair. They do this to help avoid costly replacement of your windshield should the damaged area spread to the point where repair is not recommended.
The most common deductable for comp is ZERO unless specifically requesting a higher one.

There are a number of insurance companies that include windshield coverage as part of policy. Typically this means that there is a reduced or no deductable. I had my BMW windshield replaced for $20.

What a particular insurance company covers is not in debate. However, your statement "In Illinois insurers have to cover this without deductible" is not correct. How your insurance company settles a claim is dependent on your policy and not law. Getting 2 windshield replaced free is great, but is not a result of legislation.
