so here i was under the impression that only X-51 cars had the center radiator in the front of the car....but i saw a porsche today on the street that didn't have the power package, but did have the opening up front.

as seen here: https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...3&postcount=13

could somebody explain?

I don't think that's a third radiator in the photo, but I could be wrong. Looks either painted or perhaps some kind of mesh? But 3rd radiators can always be added. I don't think any 997's so far have third radiators, except X51.

All the tip cars have them, or a trans cooler in the same location that looks like them.

At present the radiator is there on all the Tiptronic cars and X51 cars. (Would they have TWO if you have a Tiptronic X51??)

I have seen several 996 owners retrofit an additional third radiator into that area of the nose when they live in particularly warm areas. You can search the DIY section of the 996 forum for that installation.

Wide body cars (C2S, C4S) do not get the third radiator with the X51 kit because the side radiator openings are much larger. This was true on the 996 series also.

Yah, I'd like to know. I'm in Illinois and need to mount a front plate... I WILL NOT drill two holes in my front bumper, so I'd like to see if I can sacrifice that center cover to mount a modified plate holder... any ideas?

The C2S is not considered a wide body and gets the third radiator.

C2S with either Tip or X51 gets the 3rd radiator, but that would also apply to C4S.
