Just ordered an 8500 X50 with the ZR3 Laser Shifter (Jammer). It will all be installed by the dealer when my C4S arrives next week. I called Escort tech support. According to them, this is their best solution. The ZR3 has three "transponders". Two hidden near front plate and one in the rear. The ZR3 connects via a single wire to the 8500 X50 while also carrying the necessary 12v power. Until I spoke with their tech support, I was leaning towards the Escort SR7 detector with the ZR3 Jammer. The SR7 unit is very discreet, much like the K40. However, it is based on 8500 technology (Non X50), and as such does not protect against the newer "pop" radar guns.

I was hoping to avoid the suction-cup option, but I've justified this knowing that I can now use my 8500 X50 in my other vehicles. It was also about $500 cheaper than the SR7 w/ ZR3 option.

The sad news is this;

Jamming Laser is near impossible in normal auto. You can deflect some of it, and your car can be coated to decrease reflection (not eliminate). If you have access to Military coatings you can decrease reflection markedly once you know the wavelength. But unless you are ready to install a laser in your car, you cannot "jam" it as you can with relatively low energy radar.

The cops know to shoot you in the eyes, the headlights, since that's one of the most reflective surfaces on a car. Not many guys decrease the reflectance from their headlights.

it's all Physics. Forget the voodoo and marketing.

V1 is best due to arrow indicators. i mount on dash center of glass, easier to avoid cord and easy to remove when leaving car, remote in cig lighter by shift for tapping off the warnings as you pass.

Any cost for a detector is preferrable to any speeding ticket.
Thanks big guy! True, cost is subjective on these things, but as you said, preferrable to a speeding ticket... that's for damn sure!
