Live in the NY/NJ area. Torn between the 997 Cab and Coupe. Those of you who live in this area and have the Cab, have you found that the weather allows you to drive the cab top down a reasonable amount of time, or is the top mostly up? Would you buy a cab again if you could do it again, or would you get the coupe? For you local Coupe owners, would you get a cab if you could do it again? Each has its plusses and minuses, but i'm drawn to the added dimension that the cab offers, and i think it looks fine with the top up, just concerned that i won't use the cab that often. Thanks for any feedback.

In a heartbeat. I would say I can go topless from Apr - Oct, and more than a few days in the winter. Just a few weeks ago it was 60 in NYC, drove home with the top down.

Just order the heated seats.

I could not agree with "riad" more. I have owned a convertible for the last 8+ years while in NY/CT and have never regretted it. There is nothing like driving topless on a summers' eve. All of my previous convertibles have been BMW's, this 06' 997 C2S Cab I now have is the tightest, quietest Cab I have ever driven.

i had mine since jan., always has the hard-top on, can't wait for the first open-top drive!

if you really don't want to miss coupe, get the hard top. so you have 2 cars in one.

anyone have pic of a 997 cab with hard top on, other than the studio pic of the yellow 997 from Porsche's marketing materials?

I was all set on going with the coupe until i got trailed (and passed) by a black 997 cab on the West Side Highway...man, that car has a lot of road presence, and it looked wider from the rear than i expected, looked great. then, i was like, why not get the cab, it's not like i live in Alaska...

I have owned 3 911 coupes and just purchased my first cab. I live in CT. I have been driving around for the last month, and even had the top down on the 50 degree days with the heated seats. It was great. With the top up the car feels like a coupe, I do not even plan on getting a hard top for it.

I have driven with the top down temp in the 40's with no problem. However, if you want to drive when the temperature is below 50 I recommend:
1) Heated seats
2) wind deflector
3) a jacket (of course)

Driving in the winter with the top down is much more refreshing than driving in the middle of the summer when the heat is too abrasive.

I have to disagree with everyone. I barely drive my car because it's a cab. My next one will be a coupe. It is such an amazing experience when the weather is tolerable however that's just not often enough for me.

Speed

I live in Manhattan and owned two 996 cabs and now have a 997S cab, all of which are daily drivers and I have no problem driving in the City except when it snows. One can put the top down almost all year except for the Dec.-Mar. period, and even then there are days when you can put the top down. Indeed, last week I was in New Jersey on business, it was 55 degrees and I put the top down for a few hours. I will say that I did have the removable hard top on the 996's (when it was standard) which I used between Dec. and March. I don't have the hard top on the 997 and don't miss it.

You need to get a C4 or C4S so you can drive it all year long!!

I love my 997 S Cab. What I enjoy the most are those early morning drives when no one else is up and you not only hear the sound of the air blowing by but the 3.8 engine as you shift from gear to gear. Also it is pure nirvana on an evening when the moon is full, shining down from above, inside the cabin, as you wisk away listening to the growl of the beast. Hard to duplicate this with the coup even with the sun roof back. Take the cabriolet.
