The US pricing is still surprisingly low and not reflecting current exchange rates. At today's 1 Euro=1.19 US$ the european base pricing of 134k EU should translate to approx US$160k before tax! Porsche obviously very concerned about US market share in light of their announced ambitious sales targets and is heavily subsidizing this market. Makes you wonder what the profit margin is on these??
I expect Can$ base pricing will likely be consistent with European at approx +/- Can$200k, which more or less reflects current exchange and duty into Canada.
interestingly enough, Canadian 996 turbos are holding their value quite well -
however a few years ago the 996GT2 was $230,000 canadian - so I think we may be dubsidixed a bit too...

EDIT
subsidized
wow how can I spell something SO wrong!

The negatives:

Now tell me that this car would not look 100% sexier with those foglights deleted, or at least moved to where that parking sensor (I think that's what it is?) is...would make it look much better than where it is now...

I hate how the tail goes out from the engine lid, then sweeps up. It reminds me of the 930, which is good; this is just a poor execution IMO. Granted, the car looks bad in some angles, just like every car has it's bad side, but aren't these supposed to be beauty shots? I like the spoiler on this Ruf better:

And again, this is only IMO...but just one more complaint:

This photo makes the front look like a PLOW. I can understand if Porsche needs to pass european pedestrian safety regulations...but isn't the engine in the rear? (Yes...it IS!) So, why then the PLOW front end? It also reminds me of a [Nextel/Winston) cup car because the sides of the front bumper look like they're facing out...so overall, you could look at the car as a shallow dome if you want to. Aerodynamic, perhaps. IIRC the CoD is .31, which isn't bad... but beautiful? Not entirely.

The good:

I like the subtle detail, like in the wheels:

Look at the upward sloping line near the lugs, and how it carries over to the one right next to it. (I'm talking about the slots in the wheels, btw.) I like them!

I like the interior, it's similar enough (if not the same, I can't tell for sure) to other 997 models. That's good because I think of it as classy but purposeful and sporty, something the 911 series has always had going for it.

Overall it's a beautiful car. I know I bashed it more than I praised it, but you and I both know if we were given the car for free we would take it. Hell, if I had the money to afford it, I'd buy it!

The Kid,

Wheels look good imo. Unfortunately the rest of the styling is still about a C minus,
while regular C2/C4 earns an A.

All hail the prophet Eric:

Just received an email from porsche n.a. they are stating 0-60mph as 3.4 sec with
tip. seems a misprint or very quick.

Allright, those LED's are NOT the the fog lights. They are the turn signal lights.

Looks like the 997 TT has $10K worth of options standard compared to the 997S.

Icon I just realized I am not a cab guy, I feel safer in the coupe and the car felt much more solid.
PS your signature picture is beautiful. Is that photoshoped or touched up a bit? The grass looks like a Scott's comercial!
