Default Self wash vs car wash

How many of you wash your cars yourself vs taking them to a handwash carwash?

I only wash myself. Not even the guy in my office garage will touch her.

I wouldn't risk giving it to anybody else, you never know what they'll use!

Take a look at the links on Ben's posts (OCBEN) for the low down.

Ben - have you picked yourself up off the floor yet?

I have been hand washing my baby almost weekly for the last 11 months. I don't want any "strange hands" touching my baby's curves! Wait,... we ARE talking about cars here aren't we???

Always go to a hand car wash. Care less about doing it my self. Furthermore my hand wash place puts the cars on a typical car wash conveyor but inside are guys who actually wash it on a assembly line type thing. Been doing it now for 5 years never had a problem.

LOL ... No, had it been anyone else asking the question though, I would have been speechless at least. But I know about poor Brian's situation. He had paid someone (or a hand car wash place) to wash his car by hand and they ended up adding a lot of scratches to his black 997, which got him in a real panic mode. Hopefully my recommended solution was able to resolve the problem.

Hey Bryan, how's it look now? Did he do a good job for you? Are you pleased with the results?

Okay, I'm officially on the floor now.

Has anybody taken/ heard of the Zymol Paint Insurance?

My dealer wanted to talk me through it, but I had to get back to the office, so have very few details.
The deal was something like £600 to cover paint damage for the life (??) of your car. Life of the car sounds like an exaggeration, but if it's even only three years in might be worth it.

I imagine 'washing' damage is the type of thing covered.

Never heard of it, but if it's anything like a Teflon (PTFE) coating stay away from it. (See nearby thread on teflon coatings.)

Well if you want to know the truth the last time one of my cars got scratched while being washed was when I doped the house accidently onto the hood of my wife's car. Like I said 5 years now of doing it this way and its perfect every time. I'm sure I have jinxed my self now but its been a good run.

Now, I will probably lose the respect of everyone in the forum with what I'm going to say... (uh, and Ben, dial 911 already before you continue reading). I have to admit that I have never hand-washed a car in my life. Also, my three cats love to sleep on my 350Z in the garage, and I let them.

That being said, I realize that things have to change when my p-car arrives, because we are talking about bigger bucks here. Sending the cats into exile (banning them from the garage) is the easier step (I hope). Convincing myself that I will REALLY start hand-washing my car on a weekly basis AND do a good job at it, is harder to do. I know how lazy I am. So I'm actually thinking about doing something like Weissy and finding a place that does a good job at it. I'm also still remotely considering using an automatic car wash that has rubber strings (not brushes).

On the other hand, maybe actually owning a p-car will be so overwhelming that in fact I won't let anybody touch my baby.
