Steering wheel
Anyone know the cost on a smooth leather steering wheel for my 997. Don't want the multi-function wheel, just the smooth leather with maybe deviated stitching.

Thanks guys. Is this a dealer install item. Everytime I have ever installed a steering wheel i always short out the horn, or get the wheel slightly crooked. Been driving my old Corvette like that for over 7 months. The lack of a horn sometimes makes driving the California freeways a religious experience!

$490 is the cost when ordering it with the car
i'm sure the dealer can make the swap, but be asured the cost will be more. they will proably be able to reuse the airbag module
option 460 is not the thicker wheel, but a standard thickness sport wheel in smooth leather

I'm in the UK and not sure about the exact prices in USA, but I suspect the more expensive wheel you mention is the thicker (padded) 3-spoke sports steering wheel with smooth leather, cross-stitching and leather on the wheel hub. It looks and feels great! I think the code is XPA.

I will talk with the dealership today. I like my thin wheel, so I want to keep the same configuration but go to smooth leather. I'll be sitting down when they tell me the price, installed and out the door.
I have an excellent custom upholstery guy. I may run an idea by him for his opinion.

porsche is offering too many versions of the steering wheel IMO.
not only is there a seperate design for 'S', non-'S' (aval. in every col. + tip/non-tip option), they've got the smooth leather option (also aval. in every col. + tip/non-tip option), multifunction s-wheel (again aval. in every col. + tip/non-tip option), XPA thick wheel (ditto).
correct me if i'm wrong, but considering there are 9 interior colors (excluding 'exclusive' interiors), that comes to 90 different variations for a damm steering wheel??!

The rental I drove in Germany in September had the thick wheel with the smooth leather. When I came back to my standard wheel, I found myself really missing the thick/smooth. It feels really nice in the hands. I'll definitely get it on my next.
