Is anybody having problems with the alarm going off for no reason?
From what I can surmise from the owners' manual there isn't a shock sensor (so it isn't vibrations in the parking structure, a cat, or other critter); only door/trunk/glove box sensors along with an interior motion sensor. The car is a coupe.
I'm going to start deactivating the interior motion sensor to see if I can rule that out.
Anybody else having this problem?

Yes, but in my 996. The guys told me to got to Porsche and get them to put the tester on it to see if any error codes come up. It is probably some sort of sensor malfunction they reckon ( the forum boys). Mine started going off late at night. I haven't taken it in yet, so I leave it off when its locked in the garage. I arm it when its in the street, but it hasn't gone off yet for some reason, maybe temp related-at night it only goes off i.e. cooler then.

It doesn't appear that the alarm can be completely deactivated in the 997, otherwise I'd just do that until the next service. Hopefully deactivating the motion sensor will keep my neighbors from being awakened in the middle of the night.

Yes Alan you can deactivate it. I did so by removing the fuse that controls the circuit. You simply pull it out (a 15 amp one in the 996) and the circuit is no longer active, but you must remember to install it when you are out and leave the car unattended.

This happened to me once after I let a collegue of mine drive the car early on. The alarm went off in the parking lot after he locked it. Hasn't happened since.
Also if you open the door with the key in the door lock and fail to put the key in the ignition within 10 sec of opening the door the alarm will sound.

I think there was a thread on this a while back. Someone mentioned that if you double click the door lock it deactivates the alarm. I do so regularly now and the alarm hasn't decided to wake me up in the middle of the night since.

Okay, here's a dumb question. Having never heard it, what does the alarm sound like? Is it the standard, common pulsed horn beep accompanied by synchronized flashing lights that everyone ignores except when they're trying to sleep?
