Default Spoiler Up?

I tried "searching" for the answer(s) to this one, but was unsuccessful.
At what speed does the 997's spoiler actually GO UP?
And at what speed does it GO DOWN? The manual is vague about this.

Also, is there any way to tell if the spoiler has deployed while you're driving the car?
I'm 6'2" and I cannot see the spoiler from any of the three mirrors - no matter how
hard I try. I know this isn't exactly vital stuff, but I'd like to know the spoiler is either
up or down without having to deploy it manually.

Engine compartment temperature under 122°F/55°C
Spoiler extends at 75mph/120km/h and retracts at 37mph/60km/h.

Engine compartment temperature over 140°F/60°C
Spoiler extends at 50mph/80km/h and retracts at 19mph/30km/h.

If automatic control fails, a warning message is displayed by the on-board computer.

Nope, you can't see see it as you drive as was the case with the 996.
But it does deploy

I find if you get next to a large black vehicle (Escalades are PERFECT)...you can just make out the spoiler in its extended position, but it's right's where your vision gets cut by the c-pillar (I think?). It's there, but you almost have to move your head forward a few inches to make it out.

I don't really recommend this while moving...

Thanks, Speed. Great answer - very much in the Rennlist spirit.
Just where in the "FM" have you seen this specific information?
It's only written about very generally in my manual...no speeds mentioned.

And to those of you who actually answered my questions - thank you!

Also, drive next to a tanker truck, or if your lucky a glass truck and see if it's extended. You could also have someone follow ya with a camera.

Yeah, I've done the glance-over-the-shoulder-as-I-pass-a-shiny-flat-sided-vehicle routine.
But, as NoSubEDU pointed out, the C-pillar does get in your way and it's a pretty unsafe
position to put yourself in.
It's good to know it generally goes up at around 75 and down as you slow under 40.
That's all I was askin'.

By the way - Page 63 of my manual is about PSM. Page 52 is the only Spoiler reference in my book and it mentions nothing about speed up/down. I must have a different manual than "Speed."

Why couldn't you have just answered the question in the first place..instead of being such a wise guy?

I was able to see it in my 996.

I drive in a high seating position though and I sit forward, so maybe that is why.

[Only can see the far tip]

Ahhhh, that's MJones' page 63 you're looking at. ... On my '05 manual that same info is on page 56. ... If that page is missing from your manual you need to request a new one. But don't get offended when someone is trying to show you where to find the information you're looking for. You need to lighten up, not be so defensive, be a little light hearted, roll with the punches, go with the flow, and have a cold one on us.

Is there a way to make the spoiler stay up when the car is off?

Yep, did that today while I washed her good under her tail feathers. There's a button in the console underneath the HVAC controls. You'll need to have the ignition on of course to power it up, but once it's up, it's up, until you manually lower it with the same button.

That same button is there so if the "LawMan" (or Women) pull you over and say "I know you were exceeding the speed limit because your wing was extended" you can answer back and tell them you manually extended it.

Actually had this conversation in my Boxster a year ago...
