Pedsurg--you were lucky, or have an inside track in the industry as that is below market price by a fair amount. Congrats on your great deal but to keep mentioning your one data point as if it's a fair benchmark is misleading. My recent assessment of the general market is those cars are still 69-73.
Low to mid-60s would be wholesale.

Chris: Fair enough. My car was purchased via a public auction and while I may have been lucky there was no inside info. I've posted the auction particulars on this site previously. True my purchase is only one data point but since my purchase in January I have seen several very nice 997's selling for less than 70K. There are currently at least 5 997's with 5K or less miles being offered for less than 70 K on autotrader (10/27/05 5 PM). What these cars will sell for (and what they are worth) is anyone's guess. The rennlist classifieds (#4482) currently list a well equipped 997 for $66K or best offer, admittedly with 15K miles. Several agressively priced 997's have been removed, presumably (but not necessarily) because they have sold.
I only refer to my fortuitous auction purchase to to make the point that because the 997 S is in relatively high demand and definitely worth a $10K premium, that low mileage and "underappreciated" non S 997's can be real bargains in the marketplace.
I will attempt to refrain from referring to my purchase again on the pages. (Although sometimes I can't help myself) : )
