The rental I drove last week had the standard seats. I actually found myself liking them better than the adaptive seats in my car. The adaptive seat feel a bit restrictive after sitting in the standard seat.
I have the standard seats w/ electric option
without a doubt the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in. far and away better than the 996. electric gets you tilt and lumbar adjustments. the seat comfort was the 1 st thing my daughter noticed and appreciated
I originally ordered the adaptive sport, but a revisit to the dealer and a lot of *** in seat time on different vehicles brought me to my decision
the adaptive sport are very nice, but I found the side bolster stuff unnecessary and the back/ shoulder a bit too confining
the best bet is to sit yourself down and try all of the options..boxster seats are the same
This one has full supple leather-heated, with powder adjustments. Sat in adaptive seats, but since this car will never be on the track, did not think extra dollars for adaptive sports was worth it for me. You will be happy with the regular seats.
I have Basalt Black / Sand Beige standard seats but had Artic Silver / Black with Sports Seats first - didn't like the sports seats too much - nice for short sprinted driving but for a 3 hour cross country drive - not too nice...at least in my opinion
The standard seats hold you in place better than just about any 'sport' seat on the market, even though they don't look at all aggressive. With the power adjustments (including lumbar and memory), they are extremely comfortable as well. To my posterior, the non-adaptive 'sport' seat option in the 997 feel about the same, but are slightly more constrictive around the shoulders.
Both the BMW and MB that I owned with adjustable side bolsters ('adaptive' in Porsche-speak) have been back numerous times for warranty work.
Definitely sit in both seats at a dealer...I really wanted the adaptive sport seats but I found them very uncomfortable particularly in the shoulders even 'deflated.'
I hated my 2000 996 sport seats...very bad in shoulder area.....I have the standard elec seats now and love them....Standard seats or GT3 seats if you track it alot....
I find that the longer you sit in the adaptive seats, the more you dislike them. When I was shopping cars, I sat in them several times for a few minutes each. I thought they were great -- very supportive. But now that I've logged some miles in them, I find them uncomfortable. I even asked my dealer if I could take them out and replace them with standard seats. The dealer told me it could not be done -- something I find hard to believe. But it only goes to show the importance of selecting the right seat to begin with.
Anyone have some standard seats they want to sell me so I can dump these darn adaptives?!
I'm 5'9" 160 lbs. It's not the shoulder area that I find uncomfortable in the adaptives. It has to do more with the "butt feel." I like the standard seats because I've got my butt planted in that thing. I just can't find the right feel or setting in the adaptives. Also, the bottom cushion in the adaptives has very little give, and after a few hours sitting in the car (long drives), you begin to feel like you're sitting on a wooden bench.
