I would venture to guess that the cross-drilled steel rotors cost around 2 or 3 hundred a pop, about an order of magnitude (a tenth) of what the composite ones cost. I don’t think it’s just manufacturing cost that’s driving the price of the composite rotors. I think you’re actually paying for the R&D investment that went into them, that has to be amortized over far fewer units. Kinda like the pharmaceutical companies gouging us on prescription drugs to cover their R&D investment.

Just got off the phone with the parts dept. at Circle (can't beat their prices here in So. Cal) and the guy quoted me $158.20 ea. for the larger front rotors. Just wanted to see if my WAG was even close.

I would like to replace my steel rotors with PCCB when my wear out. Hopefully they won't still be charging £2billion for them by then.

How long can one expect from standard S brakes?

FWIW, I ordered a set of 355mm OEM, Brembo slotted rotors and had them cryo'd for my last car. The total came out to $800.

Steel rotors are MUCH cheaper than the carbon discs. Like 10-fold. ;-)

My service tech says the ceramic rotors will last over 100,000 miles, so long as I don't abuse them, and he said that the pads aren't much more expensive.

Does anyone know what the ceramic pads cost?

I, too, like Jim, made an emotional purchase, because I loved the car so much.

If the rotors don't last as long as they say they will, I think I might switch to steel. That will work right?
