1999Porsche911 - please be so kind as to publish the information requested of you throughout this
thread! Not ALLDATA, just data from you (ex Porsche) please so that we can all share it!!

What we DO know (Technical Bulletin 9213 dated November 3 1992) is as stated earlier, this Bulletin advised that "All engines produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen from August 1992 are now factory filled with SAE5w-40 synthetic oil."

Now it is 0w-40 synthetic oil - the exception is for the Cayenne V6 (VW503.00 quality oil) which allows for 0w-30 and 5w30 viscosities along with other Porsche Approved oils (mainly 0w-40 and 5w-40 viscosities) but with special "conditions"!!

Remember too that all such TSBs supercede those issued earlier!!!!

Providing misleading or inaccurate data on this Forum is totally counterproductive - especially to those people who do not have a Technical background - just a high capital investment in their car!

Doug, I understand your desire to provide accurate information, but to accuse me of providing "misleading" information simply because of your ignorance of the facts, is pushing it a little too much.

What you state, regarding Porsche never recommending 15W50 for the 996, is not only misleading, but factualy incorrect, period. Do a little independent research and you'll find the answers. A suggestion, though.....don't stop looking for answers as soon as you fiind the one that agrees with your position. Remember that "what is" is not necessarily "what was".

Of course Porsche knows all of this and they deliberately mislead us in their owners manual recommendation re break-in. After all PCNA wants you to have oil usage and other engines issues because you did not ignore their guidelines.

4700 miles, autocross and a long day of track driving at Sebring and have not used enough oil to even add any. I basically followed the break in but the car was delivered to me with 80 miles on it. So I have no idea how it was driven those 1st 80 miles. I kept it under 4200 for 1000 miles and then easy up to red line.
My dealers service manager said he has customers take there Porsche straight from the showroom to Sebring for track events and has never had a oil related failure.

What are you guys doing to burn so much oil in these cars?
