Making a Custom Avatar
I can't get a picture of my 911 smaller than 36kb, still too big to make an avatar which can be no larger than 19kb. Any tips, or can I email someone a picture that they can convert to an acceptable size avatar?

There's a wealth of information available here. The first thing you'll need to learn is how to do a search. I'll assume you're not lazy!

Apple!!! .... That would explain the handicap. ... Dude, Apples are for eating, Windows are for seeing.
But you're welcome just the same. Hope you're able to get your avatar sized just the way you like it.

Even with a bite out of your Apple, you should still be able to re-size your pic on the site below. Very easy to use, even for Apple guys!

What i use is Photoshop. Paintshop Pro is cheap, and probably just as acceptable in doing this. Basically you should be able to resize to the pixel size you need, but then you should also be able to adjust quality when you save. That will show you how large the file actually is in kb or whatever. Save As, and then there is a quality slider and i just adjust til my file is the size i want.

YoungTurk,...don't mind Ben's commitment to those slower machines - all I know is that I bought Apple at the equivalent of 5 and it's trading in the 40s !!!! Thank you Apple.
I use the freebie program GraphicConverter to do basic graphic design as well as Photostudio (Arcsoft - I think this came with my OS) to do cool things to pics.
I made my avatar with Photostudio (it took me a while to figure out all the little tricks but I love playing on my Macs).
I am in the process of designing a personal web site,...so you can be the judge in a few weeks

Oooooooh Dave, looks like a gauntlet just landed at my feet! ... Ready to go for desktop pinkies! ... I'll show you what a slower machine is -- the one you're driving!
Hey, just 'cuz you lucked out with Apple stock (and congratulations on that, btw) that doesn't make their machines faster! ... Do you Apple guys run liquid cooled processors? I build my machines from scratch with super coolers for overclocking. I tell ya, this is where the world of hot rodding is now focused on - computing power!

Ha ha ha .... Yeah, why are you up so late Dave? You probably took a cat nap during the day I bet.
Hey, I have a sister and brother-in-law in East Falmouth. Haven't been to bean town in a while, how's the weather these days? Too hot to sleep?

VERY hot and VERY humid today,...but we have wicked good A/C (sorry, thought I'd Bostonize things for yas). Unfortunately no cat nap - ha ha, but I think I will climb into bed shortly.
I screwed up my circadian rhythm nicely this week at work,...and to make things worse, wifey just went off to work an hour ago. One of these days I'll retire - unforunately it's along way off!
Have a good one Ben :-)
