Default TPMS?

Is TPMS a no-cost option? My 2006 S Cab (GT Silver, Cocoa, Cocoa) is on the boat, and was wondering if it is going to have TPMS. Any guesses?

It won't have it, at least for free. It is NOT a "no cost option" and is only factory installed.

Does TPMS refer to the actual PSI readings for each tire? Does the standard car without TPMS come with a warning light for too high/low pressure, or is this what TPMS is for?

Yes, tells tire pressure of each tire
temperture of air in each tire
condition of the transmitters battery (the gadget IN each tire)
Tells you to, "add air" eventually tells you "FLAT TIRE!"

Cool HUH?

The only "no cost" option is the Deletion of Model Designation option

There are a few more, like changing your aluminum S guages for black non-S ones. I forget the others.

Delete sunroof for the 996 was no cost (they SHOULD have credited people for that one!).

Actually, the 997 delete sunroof option will be made available to US consumers soon. The new order guide has this option listed in europe and it is soon to follow here as well.

Option Code 022 is also free: it substitutes the 997 black instruments for the white ones that come on the 997S.

In MY 07 TPMS may be standard equip.
For MY 06 You gotta pay

According to the new NHTSA regulation, passenger cars newly registered in the United States will have to be fitted with tire pressure monitoring systems starting in 2006. Systems are prescribed that warn the driver if one or more tires are under-inflated by 25% or more, and that monitor all four tires simultaneously and independently. The NHTSA regulation therefore in effect prescribes the introduction of direct systems such as the Tire Safety System (TSS) supplied by BERU.

The phase-in schedule requires 20% of new passenger cars to be fitted with a TPM system in the first year, which starts on September 1, 2005. In the following year, starting on September 1, 2006, 70% of newly registered cars must be fitted with such a system; and as of September 1, 2007, TPM systems are mandatory for all new four-wheel vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less. 16.5 to 17 million vehicles are currently sold in the United States each year that will be subject to this new regulation. German manufacturers export some 600,000 automobiles per annum to North America.
