Was Ready To Buy Cab, But Turned Off by Rattles
I went twice to my selling dealership this past Saturday, ready to trade my beloved 997 coupe for an Arctic Silver/Stone Grey (Black top) 997 cab. Ride top down was awesome, both in regular and Sport mode. Top up, I immediately noticed a rattle from behind me and one above and to my left. Returned to dealership, saleslady asks that I ride with the tech so the tech can hear them too. We do, and he does right away. Return to the dealership, tech tells saleslady it could take a couple of hours to find and fix the rattles. I leave in my coupe. Couple of hours later, saleslady calls saying the car is 'perfect,' which is what I had told her the car had to be in order for me to purchase. I return to the dealership about 2 hours after that, and the saleslady hands me the keys to confirm the car is to my satisfaction. Rattle behind me was gone, yes, but the one to my left and above me was still there. I leave again, and not more than half an hour later, salelady calls me back and says they've fixed it. I didn't and haven't returned. Saleslady emails me afraid she said or did something that turned me off. I haven't responded.
Are all cabs this rattle-prone? Surely not right? If so, no thanks. I'll keep my bank-vault solid, whisper quiet coupe.
Feedback anyone?

My '04 C4S cab was prone to rattles. The dealer fixed several and when the last when came up at 4k miles, I traded in for the 997 launch car (not the only reason I traded). I think the 997 cabs are supposed to have more structural rigidity compared to the 996 cabs so maybe your test car was a fluke...?

I think cab is more prone to rattles. I notice every little flutter noise, creaking, sqeeking, rattling in cars so I am extremely ****. I took me 4-5 visits over the last 6 month to get every noise out. Hopefully, none will come back.
The more you drive, the more rattle you are likely to get. It's not out of norm to get a rattling car that needs some fixing which takes a few visits. I've heard coupes have rattles. It can be rattle free but will take time.

Initially I had a vibration above me with the top up. Not all the time. I had an appointment to bring it in this month and I cancelled it. It just went away. I even took it on some extended rides to make sure. I just feel that the closing and opening mechanism within the convertible top has to initially break in. With everything new I'm sure it justs takes time settle. Outside of that I've haven't had one problem. Drives quiet as ever.

look at it this way when the top is down and running at 4000 rpms you can barely hear anything and it's just a fun ride. thanks PSE!

The car is probably a little stiff from shipping. Any small rattle will probably go away with some driving. Any lingering noises should be cleared up with a quick visit to the shop. You should go back for the car. Conversely, just find another one if you are uncomfortable with that particular car or Dealer.

I don't know. I had my 1997 BMW 328ic Convertible for 4+ years and it never rattled. However, I've been in other convertibles that sounded like a maraca.
