Hey, I will, I will.... just as soon as I get home from work in about three hours. ... My car is not a daily driver. It's in the garage, under that dust cover you saw, where it sleeps during most of the work week until TGIF day!

Nope, the resetting trick wasn't able to correct the problem. Darn! It did cycle through just as Loren described but it ended back where it started - misaligned. I'll look into florindi's method, but I'm gonna need some diagrams or pics to see exactly what he's talking about. I'm sure the techs at the dealership have diagrams that show exactly where this sunroof motor adjustment is. I'll stop by on my way home tonight and make copies unless I can find them on Renntech or elsewhere.

OCBen,
This info is in your manual page 150. It explains how to remove your center head piece.

Thanks again florindi. My manual may be outdated but I found the information on pages 154 & 155, and I see clearly where the hex socket to manually close the sunroof is located. Now if I understood you correctly, you used this to adjust the alignment after the sunroof is closed, to lift up the rear edge?

Hey thanks a lot. Yeah, I can see how this will do it, since this manual way of closing the sunroof in an emergency is meant to bring it to the fully closed position, flush with the rest of the roofline. I'll try it as soon as I get a chance and let you know how it worked.

So how did you learn about this, did you figure it out on your own or did someone suggest to you to try this feature?

Tell your friend to buy or rent an ozone generator to eliminate those satanic stenches. Available in marine supply stores/catalogs. Westmarine.com Or somewhere on net. Will probably work. Also put a small fan in the car's recesses in addition to the one in the OG unit.

Thanks for the advice MMD

The main tech at my dealership forwarded the above pic to PCNA headquarters in Atlanta to apprise them of this problem and ask what their recommended solution might be. They may well recommend the above mentioned manual adjustment, but I'm going to sit tight and wait to see what they officially recommend, which would then be more than likely released as an official service bulletin. Like I said, I'm in no hurry to get the problem resolved. It doesn't rain here in the summer anyway.

We need to get the "sunroof delete" option in the U.S.

I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I would pay to be able to delete the sunroof!

Funny how folks see things differently. I'd pay to have the sunroof be glass! Every car I have had since a mid 90's 540i has had glass.

Well, I'm a sort of purist in the sense that I don't like nonessential disruptions in the smooth lines of body panels and elsewhere. I like the body as close to pure form as possible without cutouts for this, cutouts for that. Not only would I pay for sunroof delete but I would also fork over some dough to be able to delete the hideous roof rack mounts, if that were ever possible. But that's just me.

This kind of problem is why the "Sunroof Delete" option is attractive. Oh, that's right. It's not available in the US!

Actually, I did hear from a friend of a friend of someone who bamboozled PNA to sell him a 997 with the "Sunroof Delete" option. As the story has it, he had to sign no fewer than five waivers, answer repeated questions about why he would want one without a sunroof, and endure endless speeches on how it would lower resale value.
