Sunroof delete is NOT available in US for the 997 model line
Wonder WHY that is? Not that I would want to delete it but can't think why they would offer it only to ROW buyers? For me, I would just go GT3 and be done with it, but it should be an option here...
- more headroom, especially if you get in there with a helmet
- less weight on the furthest point away from the car's center of gravity
- stiffer chasis
- no comon sunroof rattles
- much better and sportier looking roofline
Two possibilities: (1) Would have to get DOT approval for sunroof delete and not worth the expense. (2) US dealers don't want the hassle of sunroof delete in the event customer cancels. That said, you could delete the sunroof on the 996 models, although most dealers insisted on a large deposit, $5,000 to protect them from cancellation.
My question is why did Porsche eliminate the ability to open the cabrio top with the door key as one could do with the 996? It was a real convenience.
No sunroof is a drag. I decided not to bother ordering it in my SUV which was to be used only for short trips to and from town. It's funny, but I'm (we are?) so used to having one when you get the urge and it's not there it really bugs me that I don't have it!
