The S has got far better brakes and the S has got a lot of things as standard that are optional on the base 997 such as PASM, Zenons, 19" wheels, silver dials etc

The optios that come standard on the S are worth about $ 5,500.00, and the remainder $ 4,500.00 is for the different motor. The decision IMO is do you want the options? is the 35HP from the different motor worth $ 4,500.00? The final decision is up to you.

I just got a 997 S cab two weeks ago (pics are posted here; do a search) and I honestly think it is worth the extra over the base model. Also, I think in terms of long-term value, the "S" cars are going to be more desireable.

S is better if you can justify the cost. If you just want a basic car without the gizmos and the extra power, base will do fine. You can always drop a few grand and get it supercharged later and make over 400hp. I suspect most cab buyers will not need the extra ooomph or else they would have gotten a coupe. However, your resell value will be higher on S but you won't find much discount on a S where as base can be had with several grand off of MSRP.

I believe the logic most guys will follow is this: if you have the extra $10K to burn you get the S. If not, get the non-S.

After the purchase is made the number of guys who are significantly bothered by with their decision either way is probably fewer than zero.

ah, the age old base/S debate...

do a search in any of the forums, 996, boxster/etc.

many people want the best, the trump model.

plenty are secure enough to buy the base.

heres some food for though, you always hear of boxster people moving up to an S , but no one downgrades.

I think the Boxster psychology is different than 911. First of all the cars involve less money so buying trading selling is more common.

There's also alot of "regret" that there's not enough HP in them. Both S and non-S owners think the same thing.

Another factor I know this from personal experience, when you pull up next to a Carrera in your Boxster you can't help but feel slightly inferior (not that there's anything wrong with that).

All these factors make people want to upgrade their next Boxster to the S. (or get the Carerra or carerra S!!)

I bet Carerra owners ( S and non-S) are much less likely to have these S, non-S inadequacy issues after purchase.

BTW, Maybe it's not even worth discussing this stuff?

LOL!!

indeed, the boxster feels a bit like the baby model.

but even amongst 911s, there are the rank and file Carreras, and there are the Turbo/GT crowd.

I love my "S" version of the cab. I've had mine for a month now and I love the power of the engine and the red caliper brakes. They have great stopping power and precision. The other reason I love the cab is that I heard that it will have great resale value although I think I will keep it. It's a financial decison that you will not be disappointed in.

I love my 911 cabriolet.
