997 sound
997 owners.
I have a 2003 boxster and am thinking of changing to a 2005 carrera.
I test drove a carrerra yesterday and was disappointed with the sound the car made. It seemed quieter than the boxster. There was none of that induction noise that you hear on the boxster. Do you guys agree with this or am i missing something?
Any coments?

Why do you want it to be loud, so you can feel more macho? jk - new Porsches are limp-wristed, face it - just get a louder exhaust, I'm sure there's one to fit your tastes (fabspeed?)

From what my friends have said my exaust has gotten louder in the 7 months I've owned it. It's harder for me to always hear the difference from inside the car unless I have the windows down and stereo off and really try to listen, but when I'm not in car I really notice it a lot more. Maybe it "breaks in" a little over time? I don't know, I'm definately not the expert here, however it does sound better then it did when I first got the car.

Basically agree and disagree with that. At lower rpm's, say below 3500 rpm the motor is relative quiet. Between 3500 and 5500 things are picking up, and beyond that you can't miss the very typical Carrera sound, including induction and other great sounds coming from the boxer. The limit is set at 7300 rpm, but I'm very sure the motor can handle rpm's beyond 8000. There is not hesitation at any rpm.
If you missed that sound, you have to test drive again and go to the higher rev's. Of course everything is relative. If you need more sound, you can get so many things on the market to make it louder.

Opinion?
Eyeslasher1, what is your overall opinion on the 997 compared to the Boxster. Coming from a 2001 S boxster myself & I can't decide on a 997, the new Cayman, or even a 993???

QUIETER is better, IMHO. The car looks like it is speeding when it's standing still anyway. Who needs more attention when driving this car? The accident you did nothing to cause will probably be blamed on you by looks alone; you want to add loud engine sounds to the blame equation too?

I agree
I'm sort of torn betwwen the 993 c2s/c4s and a 997.
When i look at the 993
pluses - cars are already depreciated
classic style
negatives-car are 10 years old
will require work to find a car that has been taken care of
no warranty
997 -new car-warranty
interior and exteroir seem improved from 996 i dont think it is better than 993
but probably is close enough
negatives- will surely depreciate like 996.
i was kind o dissapointed with test drive-but then again i didnt hammer the car
so i dont think i really know how they drive.
overall the car seemed less nimble than the boxster,
but clearly more powerful
but i cant tell if that was because im used to my car
and i was gentle driving the 997

The reason is this (Stuff I heard and stuff I've experienced): Boxster is a fantastic car AND immediately easy to drive near it's limits.By contrast you have to learn to drive the 997. Once you learn to handle it, the combination of power and handling of the 997 exceeds the Boxster as the "hotter" car. However if the Boxster had 320HP or more the 997 would be toast.
