Default Seal Gray or Slate Gray

Going to finalize my 997S order on Monday. Trying to get some last minute opinion on Seal Gray vs Slate Gray, which color do you guys like better?

slate is a very dark color, seal on the other hand, is like BMW's silvergrey

if it comes down to these, i would say slate, it is more rare

seal has been around for ages.

I like Atlas Grey. Slate Grey, which is lighter, would be my second choice.

I believe Slate Grey is lighter than Atlas Grey.

I'd pick Slate, it is really distinctive, more metallic and more color complex than Seal. (would've gotten Slate here too, but allowing myself one truly frivolous $$ gravy option used it for special Cocoa leather instead).

I think slate gray has been around longer. My 1979 930 was slate gray metallic and seal has only been around since the 996's. You are correct that there are a TON on seal gray cars, just like my 996 tt. I much prefer slate. Darker and much more rare.

You need to see both in person and up close and then decide. I had Slate Grey on my order after seeing it on a Boxster, then changed it after seeing it on a 997. To me Slate Grey is just a darker shade of grey compared to Seal Grey. I was hoping to see hues of pewter or dark green & dark brown in it but it was a colorless darker grey to me, and it didn't seem worth the $2245 premium over the Seal after seeing it on a 997. The Dark Olive Metallic looks interesting, but I would have to see it on a car before choosing it. If you like darker greys Atlas Grey is a nice choice. It has hints of dark blue in it and is really sharp looking. Ultimately you should go with what you really like. Just because one color may be rarer than another is no reason for choosing it if you really aren't head-over-heals with it. Do you really want a color that nobody around has but you yourself don't really care for? What's the point of that? If you really like Guards Red or Artic Silver you'll be in good company with others who share your good taste. I happened to see a Seal Grey 997 with Stone Grey interior and decided right there on the spot that that was my color combination, and that was it! I couldn't care less if every 997 I see afterwards ends up having the same color combination. All I know is that I am happy with my choice and that's all that really matters.

Just saw a Slate Boxster SA at my dealer on Thursday... looked great! I really like my Seal Grey 997, but Slate Grey is very elegant, if the additional $2,245 is not an issue.

Slate

Seal

Both nice! I do like the subtlety of the color play between the wheel color & the body color of the Seal Grey a little better.

I've had cars with both colors (the last two Seal Grey, the current one Slate). While the Seal looks great when it is highly polished (a little dull and one dimensional as it gets dirty), the Slate Grey is a gorgeous color with light to dark brownish tones depending on the direct sunlight. It is much more dynamic than the Seal. I am not a big fan of Atlas - just a personal preference on not liking the blue-ish tone of the color.

in terms of rarity, porsche tends to put their colours on a cyclical rotation

colours come and go, eventually to return.

slate was reintroduced in 2003-4 i believe, and was absecent for the rest of the 996 model run.

can't speak for the 993 series as i am not familiar, but i dont see many of those in slate either.

seal on the other hand, is everywhere, on boxsters and 996s reaching back as far as 1998
