Default Help. Engine Malfunction On

Great Saturday morning for driving in Connecticut. Just drove a few miles, stopped for coffee and noticed the engine idling rough. When I got back in it was still rough. I drove a few blocks and the "Check Engine Visit Workshop" light went on. Still idles rough, but seems to run ok. Should I garage for the weekend? I am really ticked off. Would appreciate any adv. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that! Do what the manual says to be safe...

Just spoke to the dealer. He offered a loaner Boxster or Cayanne for the weekend. I'll take the 997 on the highway and if it runs ok, I'll keep it for the weekend and have it looked at on Monday. If not, I'll take a loaner. I am not happy.

If engine is brand new could have been a snag of new parts somewhere in the induction system or similar (suggested by service guy over the phone). Happened to me, made me very upset, limped home. Next day started and drove car: nothing bad recurred. Never happened since. Hopefully this will be your outcome.

What is the "Build Date" for your car?

November?! Uh-oh, that's right after Octoberfest!

Just kidding.

You didn't by chance wash your car this morning did you? Woldn't account for rough idle but the dreaded "bonnet latch/car wash/go to dealer light syndrome" can be caused by water. Is oil pressure/water/oiltemp all normal? Oil level good? Any odd noises coming from the engine with the hood open?

I was just going out for a ride myself... head over my way, meet ya in Newtown.... BTW, who is your dealer?

Gary, Dealer is in Fairfield. I had the trunk module "after wash" problem last weekend.

In any case, I just drove to the dealer and by the time I got there the engine was idling smoothly. The light was still on, but it's running fine, so I kept it for the weekend. Thanks to all for the adv.

The light is out and the car seems to be fine.
