Default 997s vs 996TT

Maybe I'm just bored but I'm thinking of selling my 02 996TT and getting a 997S. Does anyone have any first hand experience with both? Other than the hp difference can anyone offer some suggestions or comments?

Welcome to the vicious circle...desirous of the new, bored of the old...get rid of the old and then say WTF did I do that!

Yes, 'have driven both. For me its the Turbo. 997S is nice but no Turbo...my .02

Why not wait a year and get a 997tt? If you get the S now you will really kick yourself next year.

I agree. Wait for the 997TT or keep the 996TT.

Unless, of course, you have the space and the means - then keep the 996TT and get a 997S.

For a looong discussion of the 997 S vs. the 996 TT Go to this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/183165-is-your-997s-a-3-9-sec-to-60-mph-r-and-t.html

Enjoy.

Personally, I would stay away from the "integrated dry sump" block of the 996/997. RMS for starters.

The Turbo/GT3 block with a true dry sump seems to be a much more reliable engine/design.

The GT3 seems to the car that Porsche got 'most right'.

I traded an '01 996 tt for the 997S. I loved my turbo, lowered it, fixed it up and once i drove the 997S, I parted with the turbo... The 997S has less overall power but better torque at low speeds around town. Also in our community, there are so many cops it was really hard to jump on the turbo without attracting attention. Below 4k rpm-997, >4k-turbo. The 997 rides more comfortably (I'm getting old), is more refined and and more enjoyable as a daily driver. I also prefer the looks, espec. the headlights better on the 997S. However, once the 997 turbo comes out, I might go for one but realistically it's hard to imagine needing more power or better balance than the 997S.

Just my opinion, I drove the 997S and I would not trade a 996TT for one, its a great car but they are different animals and I much rather drive a 996TT.

i drove my brothers 02 996tt extensively....then we both drove the 997s....we both enjoyed the 997sbetter...normal aspiration, better engine sound, better steering feel with out the 4wheel drive, stiffer and better chassis and much nicer interior and shifter and clutch, not as fast, but close enough, esp for street driving....
