hi guys, im a newb to this forum and to porsche in general. i am in the process of purchasing my first p car, the 997S. both the local dealers here in atl have been looking for a car for me to no avail (arctic/blk lightly optioned). anyway, even the ones in inventory, they want full msrp. honestly, i always thought porsches went for full price. however, i have found a couple dealers on the east coast that are willing to give me $3000 off sticker. is this a good deal? thanks to all those that have furthered my knowledge on these cars.

I was talking to my dealer the other day (in L.A.), and was told that PCNA is pushing very hard to maintain prices on 997's, and limiting production. I know these guys and they know I ain't buying anything else for a long while, so I give some credence to what they say. The S's are in much shorter supply than the 997, at least from what I have seen. Your best bet would be buying something that's on the lot, unless you can negotiate a bigger discount on an ordered car and you're willing to wait. That said, my guess is a 2-3K discount on an S might be doable, but probably not a lot more.

I was negotiating on a 997S and was able to obtain a 5% discount (off a car with $83,500 MSRP). I had purchased 3 cars from this dealer, though, but none of my Porsches had been purchased from them. As I have been going through a car a year recently, I think they wanted to make me happy.
As it turned out, the S exceed my firm's car allowance, so I "settled" on the 997.

Your dealer can do a search on his eDCS computer and pull up every 997S in the country and as well, can be searched by the criteria you choose ie. Cobalt w/ Terracotta. The process takes less than two minutes.
Nationally there alot less of the "S" than the 997 which brings up the economic axiom "Supply & Demand"
You can take what you can get, and negotiate your best deal. Some stores will, some will not discount.
You have more chance of a discount with lease/finance since there is dealer back-end money, than a cash purchase
The other option is to find an open allocation, put some money down, and configure a car completely as you desire.
Become a "WAITER" and get exactly what you want, it's the best way to buy a Porsche.

I am in Tokyo and am getting about USD 6,000 off for a February build Carrera, I got USD 15,000 off my 2003 C2 when I bought it in October 2003.
I was offered a 996 Turbo for USD 30,000 off list!
Mind you, I am referring to Japanese prices - which are way more than US prices.
For example, the standard 997, manual, xenon's,PASM, 19' Carrera alloys will cost me USD 120,000

ok thanks guys. seems like $3000 off is a pretty decent deal then. my local dealer did look in their computer system and found about 7 cars in neighboring states and on the east coast that were spec'd the way i wanted. however, those delaers were not willing to trade or give up their cars, or so i was told. atl dealers basically told me that they didnt have a car to sell me and even if they did, it would most likely be at full retail price. i think ill go ahead and jump on the other offer. thanks again

Rasta,
It could have been. Not sure, it just caught my eye. Expo always has a large selection of very nice cars with some good pricing. I have no affiliation with the dealership at all.

Wow - I love being in the Midwest. Mine was 9.5% off and that's because the dealer had to trade to get the car I wanted [which added about $500].
Oh - one thing to consider is my car is a non-S.
