This running production change occured in Nov '04 The new faceplate is now the worldwide standard and will come on all 997 and 987 models that have PCM.

If you have the early faceplate with-out SOS button and SIM card slot, looks like you will NOT be able to retrofit.

Thanks MJones for the corrected info. Now if I can just get it to work!!!

Alin - what exactly did you do to "activate" the phone module? I have the newer faceplate with the GSM drawer and a fairly new Motorola GSM phone but it isn't clear to me what I need to do to have it become active. What did you have to purchase/ what did dealer install/ what was the cost? Is the phone mic built in? The manual isn't clear on any of this (to me anyway!)

Thanks!

First thing I would do is try someone elses SIM card and see if it will work.

If it does not, you get to visit the dealer, and there are two possible scenarios:
a)Module was not fully activated by tech with the PIWIS tester during PDI.
b)Defective head unit

Keep us informed!

Hey MJones, what exactly does this "retrofit" entail? I have the Sim card drawer/SOS button but it just says "Phone not available" (or similar) when I hit the telephone button with or without the SIM card inserted. Is there more equipment that needs to be installed or is it just an "activation" issue? Is the mic already built in?

Thanks, the manual is about useless regarding this.

The p/n for the phone module as listed in the UK Tequipment catalog is
997-044-900-71 and should be the same for the US as the Nav module is.
The module has not been released yet, and I have yet to see a TSB describing the install and what parts are included and time required for the install.
When I see it, i will post on the forum

How new the phone is has nothing to do with it, it can still be using the old standard.

Hi Gary:

The phone turns on automatically when the key is inserted. The telephone then displays "No card". I can dial 911 without the SIM card. The microphone is in the steering wheel I think. Works well...at least to the 911 operator.

It's a 64K card, not a 32K card. Are the new 64K cards all on the new voltage standard?

You have no SOS button and no SIM card drawer...= no ability to add the GSM phone module.
Check the info plate on the edge of your drivers door, for when your car was built....most likley 10 or 11 of '04

Alin2
Just wondering if the cards are different for a Tri-band phone vs standard...what kind do you have?
Have you tried a card from someone elses phone yet?
