Is your 997S a 3.9 sec to 60 mph ? (R&T)
So, Road and track ran a sports car comparision, and their assigned 997S got the best numbers todate, with a 3.9 sec. to 60 and 12.3 quarter mile...IMPRESSIVE. They presume it's due to the proper break-in ???
They ranked the carreraS third behind the boxterS and vette coupe...obviously because of the price factor...if price wasn't factored-in, none even came close...dhuh!
Also, the boxterS beat the enzo in R&T's slalom...WOW...can't wait for the boxter-club sport to arrive.

Must say - I've had a load of cars with "circa 350bhp" and the "S" "feels" like it has more! Wonder if the Germans, in the face of mounting green pressure are doing a Japanese number and underquoting the power ouput of the "S" - OR perhaps, as they don't let any engines leave the engine plant that don't meet the stated specs (and they are VERY nervous of a Mazda power scare problem) and so have given themselves an "easy target" such that every engine hits the lowest common denominator, and some have a lot more ???
How else could a standard 997 "S" get within 1% of the time of the much more track focussed 996GT3 around the 'ring ???????

I like the fact that I have a magazine that I can point to and say 3.9. I am sure all 0-60s are relative, but I am SURE many people on this board could hit 3.9 if they wanted two. Journalists are not super car drivers. Reguardless I am/would be happy with 4.1-4.3, but sub 4 is just great for beer bragging rights. *grin* Christ, 0-60 in 3.9? I don't even want to think about installing a super charger...I sooo can't wait to get my car!!

I can't lay a claim to an officially timed 0 to 60, however, I did have the opportunity to take my 997 S out with two friends, an '01 996 Turbo and an '03 996 Turbo. With the '01 in front and the '03 following, we all nailed it at 30 MPH and continued to 120 to 130 MPH. I had no problem staying with the '01 Turbo, but yes I was driving my car like I stole it, and my friend in the '03 said he was shocked and a little PO'ed. He said he was giving his car all it had to keep up with my 997 S. We were all surprised at the acceleration the 997 S demonstrated. We all agreed, the 997 S sure seems to run quicker than 350 HP. Of course, it may be the proper break in!
Now all of us can't wait to see what the 997 Turbo is like. Our three cars all are scary fast, I can only imagine what Porsche will do with the next gen Turbo.

Anyway--the 997S is hot!

I guess coming close is all relative.
7:56 --- Porsche 996 Turbo
7:56 --- Chevrolet Corvette C6 (tested by Dave Hill)
7:57 --- Lotec Porsche 993 Turbo, 600 PS, racing suspension
7:59 --- Porsche 911 Carrera S (997) (Performance Chassis) (Walter Rohrl - WHEELS June 2004)
8:02 --- Porsche 911 Carrera S (997) (Sport PASM setting) (Walter Rohrl - WHEELS June 2004)
For reference:
8:17 --- Porsche 996 C2
8:32 --- Porsche Boxster S
I am not sure how you can say the 997s doesn't come close. A missed gear change and 997s wins.
Basically, the 997s as fast as the 996 turbo with the edge going to the turbo. When the 997 turbo comes out I have no doubt it will be fast and turbo people can once again reign supreme ;-).
