Yup, that's exactly how to remove the ****. Just be ready for the "pulling" of the **** away from the shaft. It may require significant force to remove it.

So I successfully replaced my stock alcantara **** with the carbon/alcantara ****. The Porsche instructions are exactly what I followed and it was quite simple. You don't need any tools to get this done if all that you're doing is replacing the ****.

In fact, if you're using any kind of tool to turn the plastic locking "nut", you'll risk scratching it. You can do it by hand over the boot. You'll know you did it right when the stitching lines up perfectly with the shifter. Make certain the shifter itself is all the way pressed down to the bottom. The hardest part was probably getting the boot off the console. I was afraid I was going to crack a plastic bit. Keep an eye out for those metal hooks as they can pop off the console as you're exerting force.

Big ups to the OP and 808 for giving me the courage to DIY. Thank you, sincerely.

Default boot

Guess I'm a bit slow here. Sorry, but can I go thru this with you guys one more time? I want to exchange my leather boot for a alcantara boot and keep my ****.
- unclip the boot
- pull boot up and turn plastic ring 1/4 turn
- remove shift **** by pulling straight up
now how do I replace the old boot w/ the new one? How is the boot connected to the plastic nut? How do you get the nut off? How does the boot stay conected to the ****?
Thanks guys, don't mean to be stupid here just a bit confused!
Thanks as always for your help.

I did- but I only had needle nose pliers so maybe this is why it wouldn't work

use a big channel lock pliers and wrap the plastic with rag so you dont mar it

I'm trying to replace just the boot too (keeping my old ****). Did anyone ever post specifics on separating and re-attaching the boot?

You're not screwed. The boot and **** are held together with a friction fit collar. I mistakenly pulled the boot out once while removing the **** to work on the shifter and had to put it back together. I have my old shift **** and boot at home so I'll pull it apart, take pictures and post tonight.
