Upgrading Nav
Has anyone upgraded their non-nav to Nav. My 997 didn't have Navi as an option but I want to put a Navi in. I looked at some aftermarket ones but didn't really like 'em...plus I prefer the oem look of the console.
My salesman led to believe the beauty of PCM is that adding nav and/or phone modules is simply a plug and play deal. I have no idea what the Porsche parts counter will charge for a nav module, however.
If I remeber correctly, somebody here bought a 997 off the lot with nav but didn't want it, and was gauging interest for selling the module.

I was under the impression that it was a quick plug and play deal as well but a tech at the dealer told me the while that is true for the actual unit, the time and money come in when they have to install the antenna for the sattelite. Apparently it is a bit time consuming and you end up paying a lot of labor for that part. No exact word on price but they mentioned in the 2-3 thou range. Guess we'll have to wait till later to get the exact #'s.

The Navigation Module is P/N 997 044 900 70 Includes the GPS antenna that must be installed
In addition there is an optical waveguide (fiberoptic) that must be purchased. P/N varies depending if the car is equiped with or without Bose and or CD.
From the TSB The "Nav Module" is the DVD player.
Time units for install are 310 or a little over 3hr labor.
Nav disk must be ordered from Navtech

One "COOL" factor with the 997 nav is that you can have turn left/right indication appear in the display under the tach...keeping eyes closer to the road...a glance down not down and over
Thanks for the reponses. I called a dealership in my area and the parts guy there told me that Nav was not an upgradable option. However, I called my salesperson from out of state and he told me that there will be an upgrade for Nav sometime this spring or summer. I guess I'll have to wait and see...

Salespeople speak salesspeak and make stuff up but most are really clueless.
Just call them and give them the Nav Module(kit) P/N from above and ask for stock and/or availability.
You don't list what state your in, if in the West, the Parts Distribution center is in Ontario, CA and your parts dept computer can see if they have it in warehouse stock.
It's Easy
I called a couple dealers in my area for pricing. One dealer is charging $2800 for the unit itself and charging separately for install. I think that's a bit excessive...
