Default Aftermarket options slated for my new 997

So far these are the aftermarket options I wish to add to my 997 when it gets here in March:

1) Laser cut 3M clear bra covering bumper, hood, lights & mirrors.

2) Clear front side marker lights.

3) Apple iPod connection if it can be direct wired to the 997 sound system.

4) Custom cut rubber floor mats to replace cloth pile Porsche mats.

5) B&M precision short shifter linkage.

6) Fabspeed cold air induction apparatus to increase power, engine efficiency & enhance exhaust sound.

not sure about 3, 5, and 6

3 is impossible, except with FM modulation, 5,6 may not be released yet

doesnt look like porsche learned their lesson with the late 996's stereos..

3) Not sure yet about 3, the Apple iPod connection, either.

5) B&M is working on the linkage, now, per my phone conversation with them.

6) Fabspeed has the cold air induction apparatus available for the 997 & 997S with a cool video you can see at Fabspeed

#3 The adapter includes a 11.5' (3.5M) cable that plugs directly into your iPod. The other side of this cable plugs into the CD changer port on the back of your car stereo – there is no FM modulation. The Neo iON provides direct connection to most factory and aftermarket car stereos. When connected your car stereo buttons will control the iPod, the iPod battery will charge, and the sound will play from your car stereo speakers. This is the best iPod Car Kit available on the market. Call 800-505-0931 or 858-689-4141

unfortunately that unit is not compatible with porsches, and especially not porsches that were built MY03 and after that feature the fiber optic system, which includes the connection to the cd changer.

Too bad the new Ipod that will be out next week will be 60 gigs ... there is always a way to have someone wire it in if they are good , . I must say BMW was on top of the Ipod thing a while back .
For now you could just use an Itrip but the fidelity is not as good as wiring it directly in .

Default Fabspeed Cold Air

I like the Fabspeed product - did something similar with my E46 M3 - love to breathe easier... My only issue was the video setting - Kudos for the before in a parking lot, frown on the after racing through the streets (cars everywhere, girl crossing the street, etc.). Funny, at the end of the video, he says "now we'll go over to the parking lot..." Am I in the minority that saves driving like that for the track?

I am glad i was not the only one who found the video a little crazy for driving through town like a teenager, there are plenty of other places to open up Porsches,.

I'am a skeptic when it comes to the Fabspeed claims of 25-30% more air flow thru a 3" hose...
No flowbench testing or results which represent real R&D testing
+6hp gain, You can feel the power....
6hp is less than a 2% gain, can you feel that, not likley.
What your $200 really gets you is a RED colored hose.

P.T. Barnum was right... "There's a sucker born every minute."

Oh boy- I wonder if this is the time to mention the free Niagara cap plug that I clued the 996 world onto at the 996 board here back on 1/15/02 ? In fairness to Fabspeed , I eventually switched to their product and enjoyed it up to the day I sold my 996.
