Does the short shifter come with the new 997 S?

The standard 997 shifter has a shorter throw by 15% than the 996
For an additional fee option XCZ ($765) Sport shifter may be ordered and reduces lever travel by approx 20% from stock 997

I drove an S without the short kit. I was amazed at how short the throws were over the 996 and my 993s. See if you like the standard before you spend 765. Why with that money you could get a set of track tires.

B&M Racing & Performance Products will have a short shifter for the 997 in a few months... they're working on it now. The "B&M Precision Shifter" that I installed myself on my 996 feels & works great with a 35% reduction & it cost about $300.

the short shifter is uneccessary for most, the increased stiffness of the stock unit of the 997 versus the stock on the 996 is substantial and plenty for most people who thought the 996's was a bit vague in actuation.

however, the B&M unit is still stiffer than the stock 997, and some may get it for sheer familiarity reasons, its a great unit. VERY precise and perhaps a bit too stiff for some,

but for those who want no-groping-around-in-the-dark-rifle-bolt precision, the B&M/ or porsche rebranded equivalent, is the way to go

Your desciption of the B&M Precision Shifter as displaying "no-groping-around-in-the-dark-rifle-bolt precision" feels most accurate to the experience of this B&M Precision Shifter fan. I'll still wait to hear of others' experience with the new 997 B&M linkage as it compares to my familiarization with the 996 model version, before altering my January build 997. Compared to my 996 B&M linkage, the 997 standard linkage seems a little long & somewhat vague for my acquired tastes, yet a great improvement over the stock 996 linkage.

Agreed. I've just gotten the B&M and Evo ShiftLink in, and the difference on my '04 C4S Cab is absolutely amazing. Can't understand why it's not stock.

My stock shift went from 5.5" throw to just slightly over 3" throw. Feels DAMN good.

Just drove an '05 996TT with the Sport shifter option. It feels so smooth and precise. I will definitely include it on my 997 order.

What is the feedback on Porsche's short throw shifter? Is it not as good as B&Ms?
