Default 997 for 70-75K?

I've seen some low mileage 997's on sale in the Autotrader in the low 70's.
Is that for real?
Maybe I should get a 997 instead of a 996.
Cost of ownership isn't looking to bad on the latest model although a 2001 Turbo would be pretty sweet...

Base MSRP is $70k, so it's not unreasonable to find used ones with options for $70-75k.

That's why I ordered one instead of a 996. Here in Tampa, they're selling for MSRP. So I ordered one with 2 small options (Xenon's & Chrono) for $71.5k. Now if I can just wait till Thanksgiving (my delivery sate) I'll be set!

hey guy's, just remember. all you guys who pay close to msrp for an early 997-in several months, they will be discounting the hell out of 997's. every porsche that was recently introduced, that was forcast to be hot, almost immediately was discounted (gt3, c4s cab, turbo cab, gt2). even the mighty turbo, which at one time had a 2 year wait list, ended up discounted big time. enjoy that 997, but it is going to be worth significantly less real soon.

I just ordered a base model with the following options:

Arctic
Power seats
Sport steering wheel
Xenons
Mats
Colored crests

I got $3,000 off MSRP and the car's bottom line is around $71k. IMHO, I got a fairly good deal, and the car has the appropriate amount of options for resale down the road. I'm still flirting with adding Bose, but we'll see. So it's not impossible to get a car with decent options for under $75.

JasonF, is that 71k out the door w/ taxes? if so that is very nice. i thought with tax and other misc fees a 997 would run 80k easy. with those options

That price is without taxes. It is essentially $3,000 off MSRP.

so the real cash out is more like 76/77k? taking a step back i always find porsche so expensive. 6 cyclinders and no exotic materials or hand made by one mechanic yet nearly $100k for porsche 911s. oh well. another thread. for that topic.

What do you want for $70k? Take a look around...the fastest BMW 3-series, MB C-class (with "hand made" motor), small Audi, and Chevrolet Corvette...all great cars in their own right, but less than half the price of a 911 with smaller motors (Corvette excepted, of course)...will run $50-60k with options.

When driven back-to-back, it's easy to justify the 911's slightly higher cost.

m3 - similar hp and engine out the door 20k less, m5 more of everything same price as 911s. just one example. remember apple ot apple comps - tax options etc and the 911 is 20k more expensive than the audi s4, mbz c55, corvette and m3.

hey im willing to pay up the 20k for the subtle feel we all love, but the here is the fact.

porsche makes more profit per car than bmw, mbz, aston, ferrari, etc. so you think we are paying up? i think so....most of us happily, but all i am saying is fact is fact. If you make less cars as porsche does scale economics should suggest they make less profits, except the markup and margins in the porsche P&L says .....they make more money than anyone else?

hum....again i think they are making $$ beyond what they put in.....which is my point,....but hey they can so why not i guess.

6 cylindars....with ok interior....80-100k....kind of expensive. bottom line

Thanks alin2.
Yes, reef tanks certainly are another enjoyable and expensive hobby choice the little lady doesn't understand around here.
