First 997S Mod
Started down the slippery slope today! Clear side markers installed - pics below. After my follies this year to date, my budget is about tapped out, but the siren song of mods is still there, so maybe I'll get some clear bulbs for the side markers, and maybe I'll even stretch for those airbag warning sticker cover-ups that Don in Cape Cod found for us!

The air bag sticker coverups are nice but not necessary. You can use denatured alcohol to remove the stickers -- from the vanity mirror cover AND the front of the visor.
I don't know what the regs are where you live but here in Virginia sidemarkers have to be amber. If you don't like seeing the orange bulb through the clear sidemarkers (when off) then check out the Sylvania SilverStar signal bulb -- it is blue/silver when turned off and glows amber when on. http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...al/default.htm
What are your impressions on the PCCBs? Did you have regular brakes or big reds on your 996?
Congrats again on the new car!

programmatore - thanks for the recommendation on the bulbs - that's what I had in mind. Amber side markers are probably mandatory in California but hopefully it will go unnoticed (unless I really **** off an LEO), and it would just be a "fixit" ticket at worst. I have also always used license plate frames with a clear acrylic cover, which are also illegal in California, but I only got dinged once 10 years ago with my RS America - "fixed it", then put them back on.
996 had regular brakes. Really too soon to tell about PCCBs as I am taking it easy so far, but initially they seem to have awesome stopping power - just hope they last!

Carrera GT - You asked just in time - just took the bags out of the trash to answer you:
997.631.034.00
997.631.033.00
Don't know which is right or left.

Jim: nice first mod; the clear lens looks great.
Regarding the lighting requirements in California, here's a bit of the Vehicle Code:
"§ 24953. Turn signal lamps
(a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light visible to the rear.
(b) Side-mounted turn signal lamps projecting a flashing amber light to either side may be used to supplement the front and rear turn signals. Side-mounted turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the center of the vehicle may project a flashing red light no part of which shall be visible from the front."
This would seem to permit clear lenses so long as the side mounted light (which your mod is about) flashes amber. Now that I think about it, the stock side marker lights on my Passat have clear lenses with amber bulbs. I think you're in the clear (as it were) on this one, Jim.

also check out the Philips Silvervision bulbs. They are silver, not blue, when unlit, and amber when lit.

Thanks, Dave and Graham.
Dave - drove by last weekend and saw your car in the garage but didn't have time to stop unless you happened to be outside. Will hook up sooner or later. Are you going to German Auto Fest?

Jim: nope, can't make it this weekend. I wanted to, then we found out that our daughter's first soccer game is Saturday, and I've given myself a bunch of tasks to do Sunday in advance of housepainting beginning on Monday. Oh well. I'll try to catch it next year.
