Default Ready to Buy? Am I Nuts? EDIT: DID IT!

I just came back from the dealer and I am already calculating ... I know it is probably totally stupid to get rid of a 5 month old Targa ... but the black on black 997S, loaded, sure looks sweet. Would you all think I'm nuts to trade up?? (I think I can get out of the Targa without a brutal loss, actually a pretty sweet trade in deal, of course full MSRP on the 997S.)

No I don't think you are crazy. It is a normal reaction to a truly great looking car. If you are not going to get hurt on the trade in the Targa. And I also agree the Black, Black car does look terrific. The Black car is also got nice equipment on it. Trade it and enjoy.

You are nuts, but if you have enough money to kiss goodbye your loss on the Targa, then go for it. How can you not get hurt on the Targa?

Wait till the hype is over and they have 997's on the lot...then do it!

Default Buy it!

When they throw the last shovel of dirt is your face in the cemetary, will it have made any real difference?...the older I get, I value the present as it is all we have.....

Of course, unless you and or your family will starve.......oh hell, go ahead and miss a meal.....

Enjoy it.....the experience is what counts!

Ciao

You are currently running on emotions. Wait a month and see if you still have the same desire and then act accordingly.

Well, I did it (see my post on 996 forum). I got a great trade in - only lost 6.5K on the Targa from what I paid in March. Gotta go drive!!!

Thanks for your comments - more from me to follow.

nota-troll - Are you serious? My wife's 04 Cayenne S has 8,600 miles on it and she made me promise to get her an 05 (with Nav, which she doesn't have) to "allow" me to get my 997S. So I actually am going to get rid of it unless I can bring her to her senses in the next few days. Lapis Blue, tan interior, xenons, moonroof, 18s, Bose, etc., no Nav.

jcnesq- if your wife just wants nav, you can get it added to you current Cayenne for about 4k or so- less if you beat up the dealer. Wait a month or so and you can get the DVD based version....

Gary - thanks. Do you know if all the 2005's will have a DVD based version of the Nav? Any by that do you mean a system that will play movie-type DVD's?

Since my wife's Cayenne S is leased and I should do very well on both ends of the transaction (old trade and new price), I actually don't think this swap is going to be too painful. In addition to Nav there are a couple other things the wife wants, and though she wants to stick with Lapis Blue she wants black instead of tan interior. So she gets to upgrade as a (nonsensical) price for my own folly.

All 2005s are supposed to have DVD-based nav- lots more data than a CDROM. As far as playing movie DVD's, I think it is against federal highway law to have an entertainment screen running within sight of the driver while car is in motion, so PCNA won't enable that feature. I do know there have been a couple Cayenne's modified to make the AV button on PCM work, with feed to head rest monitors, as well as the nav unit itself.
