  1. What kind of weather where you live to daily it - heavy rain like South FL, any snow, etc as that will determine if you need AWD or if RWD is better. The RWD cars have less to maintain, better steering feel, and more playful handling when you want it. With the engine over the rear wheels
  2. Will it definitely need to be a 2 pedal car (Tiptronic or PDK) or are you also looking at MT cars
  3. Will you buy it, drive it for a few years, then move on or are you going to buy it and run it until it's done (200k miles or more)
  4. Do you care if it's a coupe or cab?

It is amazing how much legroom Porsches have - Even the earlier 911's had lots of legroom.
997's are super comfortable on long drives.

Couldn't agree more! I'm 6'5" and people always laugh when they find out I drive a 911 because they can't believe I fit in it. But it's more comfortable and I have more leg room in my 997.1 than my wife's BMW X3. Plus it's a hell of a lot more fun to drive!

I have had my 997 C2S (manual) for almost 1.5 years as my daily and only car. I dont drive that often but when I do, it is all I have. To give you an idea in the first year I put about 2,500 miles on it, in my second half year I put about 1,700 miles on it. I live in downtown and can walk everywhere. Even with that being said I am in the market for my second car as the 997 is a wonderful car, it just is not a daily driver car. Yes, you can force it to be and it won't ruin your day but you will 100% have small nuances where you think "dang, really" or "dang, im gonna be stuck in this traffic". I will add I upgraded to the genuine porsche PCCM+ with rear view camera to help with making it daily AND even then I am looking for a second car. Would I get rid of it? No, Not unless I must (financial needs). For me, I would rather have two cars with my second being a practical comfortable vehicle. That will also help keep the miles down on the 997. Considering you are married and your wife has another car, I dont see why not? Unless you are not allowed to use her car. Cheers. Hope that helps.

I bought a 1979 308 Ferrari GTS back in the early 1990's - Nice looking but so uncomfortble. Tight drivers compartment built for 5'7" Italians.

..... IMO 997 should be used for long tour drives & getaways.

Oh come on @groovzilla

Dont listen to him. My 997 has been my daily driver for 8 years and 60k+ miles. It's the best DD ever. I hauled my two boys to soccer games, baseball practices and school pickups and put a smile on my face every time. It's a shockingly practical car. A bag of baseball gear fits perfectly in the frunk and I could fit one boy in the front and the younger in the back. Their friends all loved riding in it.

You can call me whatever you want .
....And like I said age related - When I was 25 you couldn't pry me out of my Silver/Black 1977 911S with rebuilt engine and 11 blade fan. I drove everywhere/every day - But those days are gone with bad hips & the invention of the Diesel Mercedes SUV
Miss my hairstylist

Ha! I hate to say it but ever since my wife got the RR L405 with massaging seats that has started to move up on my list as the ideal DD. It's like a spa on wheels with a 525HP SC V8.

My wife dailyed hers for 5 years when she was running the kids to school and all their activities for about 60k miles. Was super reliable.

Now one kid is in college and the other a senior in high school and they both drive Audi SQ5s.

My wife still has it and it's her fun car now for when she's not driving our truck around for her yard projects.

Love it! We fit skim boards, baseball bats...even crab traps in the back of ours

You can use AI on those photos and add full protective suits and masks on the kids.

I've found most maintenance and common repair tasks are relatively straightforward, having done the water pump, starter, AOS, and suspension work myself, in addition to routine oil changes, etc.

The thing about owning any Porsche is to maintain it. It's when you let the maintenance slide that the car can bite you.
I daily my 84K mile 2006 Cab C4 MT 4 days a week, 60 miles round trip each time. About 40 miles are open freeway per round trip, 70-80 mph. In my mid 70s now, but keep high school weight so I can get in and out of it and enjoy the experience (lower blood pressure another benefit of high school weight). I feel very lucky to have this car, for 11 years now. Runs better now than when we got it at 50K miles. Original suspension, no high speed vibes, no wondering on the road etc. etc. I know that some convert C4s to C2s, but thats not the in thing with 991s and 992s, only 996s and 997.1s. With 992s, the C4s are sought after more than C2s with some owners so that the power can be laid down with less drama. Also PDKs are more sought after than MTs, so the C2S MT is not a 992 thing, but it is a 997 thing for sure.
