Coolant gusher (Carrera AOS coolant union)
997.1 Carrera with 95k miles, took in to the shop to replace the Air Oil Separator (telltale intermittent shrieking noise/squeal with engine running and immediately after shutdown, air leaking into the crankcase past the rear main seal).
Also had a replacement coolant connector for them to install, which anchors the coolant line from the AOS at a location between the alternator & the A/C compressor (part 17 in the diagram below). Original is plastic, new one is a steel & billet aluminum unit by Rauch & Spiegel (996-106-226-52, Pelican Parts).
Went out to show the service writer where it lives, opened the deck lid and wiggled the upper hose and the 20-yr old plastic original let go, Whoosh!! jetting hot coolant like an over-pressured water fountain. (Look closely, can see the spray pattern in photo below 😆
Folks with 997.1 Carreras (3.6L, 9605 engine) - if you haven’t changed out this $7 plastic part yet, consider doing so! The Rauch & Spiegel aftermarket replacement was about $60 and appears exceedingly robust.

Same here when working on my wife's car this past December. repaired it with a temporary union and wire tires to keep it way from the serpentine belt that runs right in front of it - ordered the metal ones for both our cars, but haven't installed them yet as neither sees much use. Need to do an oil change on hers so that might be the time while it's up on the lift. Thanks for the reminder.

I didn’t know about this until just now! I’ve had the metal connector and tie wrap method on my car for years. Going to order one and swap it out when I do the next coolant system repair.
